I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.
Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim
You have said it for me too. This President has been the best president in my lifetime. And I remember President Roosevelt so you know I've seen a lot.
I know your comment was meant as the coup de grace, the witty riposte that ends all argument, but it was irrelevant, wrong, and, frankly, just as boring as one would expect.
He told me that also. Which is more than a little ironic, since it is his version of history that is right out of a California public fifth grade textbook.
IMO, the Senate's worthless.
Save a couple like Sessions. Coburn came out strong.
The House will determine their fate by whether they allow the Senate's irresponsible amnesty to succeed.
So far, I'm sitting home. Even though I've been told I'm a DU plant, being led by the nose by the Libs, and UnAmerican to boot. For some reason those assaults on my person have been ineffective. As ineffective as our securement of the border. :-)
"Dont you have problems in your own country, mademoiselle?"
Which country, little bird?
The SC justics seem to be good choices. But we are far from seeing if they really will be or not. I reseverve final judgement on them until they have had some time to make some decisions.
Thats because their local constituents are not happy with amnesty if thats what the President supports.
I do disagree with him on that matter but its just one of many issues that I think is important to me.
My local rep agrees with me on this issue and I dont see how sitting the elections and not voting for him will help the anti immigration problem. Last time I checked, the Rats are completly against anything we propose.
Wonder what jobs they are going to do?
Thanks for the link about Boxer. I'm going to post it for the democrats to read in USENET / GOOGLE POLITICAL NEWSGROUPS then I'll sit back and watch them implode.
Very valid points.
This proposed scamnesty is a slap in the face to all who follow the rules to come here and work here.
NOTE: Vent to the Whiny-Baby Republicans out there:
Stay home on election day because your're pissed at Bush?
Go ahead. Kiss your family goodbye after November 8th.
I don't know who's more full of crap on this issue the so-called "shoot the bastards" pundits or the clueless Democrats, but this immigration issue isn't going to be fixed by taking your ball and staying home on election day.
This problem didn't begin in 2001 and isn't going to get fixed by 2008 or beyond. Fact is that whether you like it or not or believe it or not WE created this problem not President Bush. You might not like his solutions or plan, but calling him "El Presidente" is childish and moronic.
So in closing, stay home if you want. But do us another favor - stay there. We don't need you.
UPDATE: Tell Michelle Malkin that no matter what we aren't building internment camps and we're not going to shoot mexicans. Unfortunately anything short of that won't satisfy her. Too bad - on this issue she is too radical for any calm and rational solutions. This is exactly the type of diatribes we don't need. Sorry for MM fans, but she is really getting on my nerves - like a nagging spouse - or worse.
By the way, you want to see the real problem the Republican Party? Gremlins. Don't feed them after midnight. Sheesh what a bunch of crisis queens!
Look, the President delivered a plan. At least a plan. Now at least we've got something to talk about. But get over it, we are not going to intern or rip millions of people out of the woodwork and ship them back on meat packing cars to countries that aren't - for the most part - going to receive them back anyway.
ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. To be frank, most of this is rooted in the "Us Four and No More" mentality.
No, I'm not going to label it racist, but whenever a Malkin or other "Pack 'em up" defender gets on the horn it's what I hear between the lines. I call it the way I see it and it's got a stink on it that A-Jax won't remove.
Again, the problems we have now didn't happen overnight, and aren't going away overnight. At least we have a start now. Sure it would be stronger and more comprehensive, but in an election year you aren't going to see a whole lot done - and we have already come farther than even the whiners thought.
Let's see where it goes from here.
UPDATE: Contrast reason with sophmoronic giberish. The latter one of the reason I no longer subscribe to the National Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.
UPDATE: I agree with AJ here. President Bush has given us a lot to be thankful for and just when he could use the support some of us become indicative of Chronic Malcontent Syndrome, "Why should I suffer in silence when I can still moan, wail and complain?". I think I'm on to something here - a separation of the sheep and the goats.
UPDATE II: An amen to this post from Joe Dartblog, specifically:
"Michelle Malkin tuned in knowing shed hate everything the president was going to say. Wrong ideathe only person who can bring about consensus on this absolutely fractured-beyond-repair issue is the president. This is the best offer American sovereigntistswhich is to say almost everyone, whether they realize it or notwill have for a long time."
WOW!! I can barely even SEE my mointor at that distance.
;-)
Oh, there are Bush supporters here.
Mostly I'm scrolling through all the venting going on.
For the average American this was a good speech with good suggestions for getting a handle on the problem.
And I hope all the rabid conservatives keep on venting as that has made it possible for Bush to beef up his border enforcement suggestions and still seem moderate. A year ago they would have seemed radical.
Interesting how the Dems in the DBM ratchet up the dialog, egging on our rabid conservatives, hoping they will desert the Republicans in the elections, and end the end they often just get the American people to agree that something tougher needs to be done....
...and also forced the Dems in the Congress to relent to tougher measures, ones they would have filibustered and killed before.
So, everyone keep venting away....especially those of you who lure the Dems into believing you will never, ever vote for a Republican again if Bush doesn't build King Kong's wall at the border, and sent the Special Forces house to house to shoot any illegals found in the U.S.
Have fun. :-)
President Bush is a better president than some Americans deserve.

You know...that's exactly why I was not wanting to check in here tonight. I'm tired of the RIGHT whining now!
You gotta be quick. The moderators don't let them stay up once they notice them.
3 or 4 is off by about a factor of 100 x.
I'm glad you directed that question to the other person because I have no idea what the comparable populations were in 1800.
hehehehehehe
"This speech is just part of the process of making sausage. If you want to influence that process you have to figure out where the disagreement is. It seems to me that the senate is agruing about who will be eligible to apply to stay and be citizens. Bush says they should have been here a long time and be employed. What is long? Five years? This is what the senate is arguing, I think"
Exactly, I mean the power of the internet and cable news is great but its been not a great force in explaining what is really going on in this debate. In fact at times I have noticed that its becoming more difficult for a casusal observer to tell the difference between the propaganda and the real news on the net. It seems to me that the best of the House bill and the best of the Senate bill will hopefully come together. Of course its not a perfect world and some things will gaul both sides. I am glad the President laid out his views tonight. I think its laying the groundwork for a Senate Bill with tough enforcement measures on the border like the House wants.
