I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Bush just outlined a huge jump in border security, something that can PASS Congress.

He had a good outline, but there was no teeth to fight the REAL problem. The REAL problem is employers who hire illegals and pay no withholding taxes, no social security withholdings. I'll bet those "jobs no one will do" would be a little more attractive to Americans if we got to keep 100% of the pay like the illegals do, huh?
If 20,000,000 Mexicans want to become US citizens (and pay income taxes, SS taxes, health insurance and auto insurance, etc...) fine. This isn't racial nor ethnic. It's about abiding by the law and playing by the rules that all US citizens currently have to abide by.
Although I think GWB has done an extremely commendable job on the economy and the WOT, his willful disregard towards our southern border is disgraceful. I received earlier an email from Congressman John Culberson of Texas (he represents Bush senior's district) which talked about how he attended a meeting in Houston with illegal aliens in 2004 accompanied by two Bush representatives. In that meeting they said they had no intention of enforcing our immigration laws. Rep Culberson said he held his tongue but immediately wrote Pres Bush saying this is poor policy. He claims to have tried to talk to Bush about this many times but was continually rebuffed. Pres Bush's speech tonight I'm afraid is nothing but pablum for the masses and PR to show he is doing something when in actuality there is nothing going on behind the curtain.
The speech today will ensure that does NOT happen.
Bush is triangulating you like Clinton did.
