BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS
NY Post ^ | 5/15/06

Posted on 05/15/2006 5:48:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

Perhaps he will.

In any event, Hillary!™ will promise to deport them, if such a promise would get her elected....

Also what do have against a guy named Jose picking asparagus?

Nothing as long as he's legal. Why do you always insinuate that someone who wants LEGAL and ORDERLY immigration, instead of an open run on our borders is racist?

"Jobs Americans won't do"

How long will that slur keep bouncing around?

My son, who works on a drilling rig for $17 an hour, said the other day they were having to hand break out some concrete and it was pretty backbreaking. The foreman appologized for not having a jackhammer to make the job easier and one of the guys cracked, "Oh, well, it could be worse. We could be having to pick lettuce for $50 an hour!

That is right, you can't BUT if you go after the employers with LARGE fines for hiring illegals, they will leave on their own because they cannot find work and the TIDAL WAVE will cease. It is only common sense. Apparently NO ONE in the GOVERNMENT is able to use LOGIC AND COMMON SENSE.

They won't leave voluntarily regardless. Why would they go back to the hell holes they came from at great risk and expense? Mexico is a poor, third world country (as are the countries of Central America) with a burgeoning population of 107 million, with a median age of 25 compared to our 36, and 40% living below their poverty level. Being poor and jobless in America is better than being poor and jobless in Mexico. Moreover, there is a huge support netork within the US to give them shelter, food, and jobs.

According to the the 2000 census figures, there are 9 million Mexican-born residents of the US with 4 million in California alone, i.e., about one in every eight residents of California was born in Mexico. In fact, there are 9 million foreign born residents of California or one in every four people in the state. Our national Hispanic population is around 40 million. I believe these figures are seriously understated.

We are not going to legislate our way out of the problem using employer sanctions and tracking systems. The economic and demographic pressures are too great to be contained by other than border security (including rounding up people who overstay their visas), including fences as appropriate security wise.

Mexico is encouraging the flow of migrants to America because it acts as a pressure release valve for political dissent and it is the largest source of revenue, even more than the sale of oil. The tidal wave is just beginning. The more we continue to delude ourselves that we can control the flood of illegal immigrants through employer sanctions, guest worker programs, and legalization of those already here, the worse it will get.

If you were poor and undeducated in Mexico or Central America and knew that there was no hope or opportunity of improving your situation, wouldn't you want to step across a relatively undefended border and enter the richest, freest country in the world that has millions of your compatriots already living there? The bottom line is that they are not going home and more are on the way in greater numbers. It is common sense.

There has been no will to enforce the law and there are several reasons for it which have been discussed ad nauseum here. Getting serious about it will change matters but in the end, deporting that many people is not possible. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try when and where possible to get rid of them though.

And, tying the failure to enforce the borders with justifying running away from the WOT doesn't cut it me.

It is indeed all about the Hispanic vote. And the Republicans are delusional if they think the majority of these people will ever vote for them.

Did the Republicans WATCH the demonstrations? The demonstrators wearing their Che T-shirts with Old Glory wrapped around their *sses marching under the ANSWER banner demanding their "rights" sure didn't look like members of the Future Republican Voters of America Club to me.

Republicans should ask themselves, "Has the area of our country with the most illegals per capita, California, become more or less liberal in recent years?"

They said drones MAY be deployed along the border. Great! But how many?

Both the New Mexico and Texas Air National Guards are bringing Predator squadrons on line.  Not sure how far along they are, though.  I believe each unit will have around 30 Predators.

Whoops . . . make that the Arizona and Texas Air National Guards.  Don't know about New Mexico.

If this is an accurate precursor of the Presidents' speech, and I hope it is not, it will not go well. The phrase "jobs Americans won't do" should never, ever be used. There is no need to make reference to how we can't deport 11M illegals. No one is proposing it and it isn't necessary.

These are strawmen, Bahbah, and I get sick of hearing our President useing terms like these. Does he really think we are stupid? Or is just that we, HIS American Citizen Voters, don't count.

Close the border, dry up the jobs and shut off the welfare benefits. A huge part of the problem will solve itself. Oh, and announce that Chertoff has been fired as he apparently can't get anything done.

Well said!

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

IOW's, amnesty.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do."

Because we're lazy? Because we disdain hard labor? I DO hard labor. I perform in one of the jobs Americans won't do. And I am furious at the arrogant out of touch condecension. Maybe our elites in Washington cringe at getting their hands dirty, but real Americans do not.

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

He doesn't give a damn what Americans want or he'd drop his attempts to trick us to push through amnesty.

Bush plans to repeat his call for creating a temporary-worker program "that would allow foreign workers to enter our country in a lawful way for a limited period of time," said Tamburri.

Indentured servitude. Cheap labor. Morally indefensible.

Hadley didn't say whether Bush backed building a 700-mile fence on the Mexican border - although Bush supported the House bill last year that included a fence and tough penalties for illegals and employers who hire them.

he did? When? Last I checked he embraced teddy and McCain while keeping Sessions our of meetings and trying to strongarm the House.

Sorry for the delay in response to your post - I had other matters in which to attend.

Now, back the relevant matter at hand: why do you oppose he rule of law?

Oh god, he's going to use that phrase "jobs Americans won't do" again.

He might but lets wait. We voted for him, the least we can do is listen.

Kind of like "giving him enough rope."

It's true, if you add the words, "at the same price".

If you want $25 an hr. lawn care, let me know how many people you will hire at that price. How about the $4.00 cup of coffee in the train terminal? How many cups of that are you buying?

Yes, as a matter of fact I do think the country would be much better off if the government would pander to average American taxpayers for a change. That's some pandering I can support.

This is going to get ugly, if this is the speech he gives.

The "immigrants" will demand more rights if this is what he says, and if this sham of an amnesty passes, then every illegal immigrant has just won the U.S.A. Free Ride Lottery, and will demand (and get) free healthcare, education, you name it, far and above what they take now. They ALREADY feel entitled, this will most certainly make them bolder. I won't be surprised if they demand the right to be here, without citizenship, without paying taxes, and be able to corss the border AT WILL. And once here, bring their extended family, on our dime.

Then, we'll pay them Social Security and all the other goodies when they get too old to do the jobs we won't do.

Mr. President, you are making a mockery of my citizenship and birthright, and spitting in our collective faces accusing us of being lazy. I've supported you through good and bad, through scandal and war, and this is how you repay our loyalty? We're lazy?

If this is truly his speech, then I will be ending my membership in the Republican Party, until the day that I see true leadership and belief in our country, it's citizens, and our Constitution and laws returns.

Yes, it's come to that point. Yes, it could allow Pelosi or Hillary or Gore in office.

Yes, it's THAT serious to me, that I will walk away. If the President actually says this, then my citizenship is worthless from that point on.

I'm tired of being told I'm lazy, and that these criminals, who bring NOTHING to the table, are better than us, and deserve more than we do.

I'm fed up. I'm drawing the line here. The next move is the President's.

Tomorrow, I may be able to feel any pride when I say I'm American.

How many employers are you going to fine for this to happen? 2%, 10%, 30%?.... It will not happen and you must get realistic about this issue.

The IRS has intimidated the entire country into paying taxes. What percentage do they prosecute?

This speach, if it in any way suggests "WE CAN'T ENFORCE OUR OWN LAWS, AND PROTECT OUR OWN BORDERS" will be an absolute FLOP..

It's not that we can't, it's that we won't. It's an insult for anyone to think we are that stupid. We can do any damn thing we make up our minds to do including deporting 12 million ILLEGALS (including how many CRIMINALS).

I won't be listening to this crap tonight either.
