BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS
NY Post ^ | 5/15/06

Posted on 05/15/2006 5:48:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

what can be more racist than condemning one ethnic group in favor of another...to wit, lazy Americans, versus strong hard working Mexicans

The only two things Bush has to do is enforce EXISTING laws

The President can only request funding from Congress and administer the programs Congress approves. If Congress funds $250 billion this year to begin dealing with the illegal aliens, the President must administer that program. In the meantime he is severely constrained in what he can actually do.

As with his liberal brethren, they disdain the middle class but love the ignorant, poor and dependent.

And yet he's also for the rich and big oil? That's one busy feller! :-D

"To actually go out and attempt to boot the 11-12-15-18 whatever million illegals is not going to work. To effectively accomplish that mission there would have to be an expansion of government so vast that the police state that many on FR fear will become a reality."

Sorry, but that's simply NOT true. The INS was booting about 1.5 million a year even under Clinton. Close of the border so they can't get in in the first place, fine employers who hire time (after setting up a workable citizinship verification process that lets employers actually check the validity of docments presented), and double the enforcement budget. It'll take a few years to do, but it'll get done, and without your "police state".

EVERYONE should place their opinion to this article. Giving your opinion is almost like on-line VOTING. I am sure that someone in our government has the responsibility to "get the feel" for what the citizens think about this issue... And is reading this website...

Now for my two cents. My sister is the most liberal Democrat in Florida. She is fed up. She worked in social services and said the illegals would come into her office and demand benefits. She speaks some but is not fluent in Spanish. They would CURSE at her (those words she understood perfectly) if they did not get what they wanted. She finally got out of the job.

As many have noted, there is no need to deport the 10 to 30 million. When employers are forced to enforce existing law, under existing penalties, and announce to the illegal that they no longer have a job, they will SELF-DEPORT.

I ran a business through the 1990s. There was a crackdown in about 1995 or 1996. I had to confirm the identity of all of my employees and check the identity of all new hires. We photocopied drivers license, social security cards, voter registration cards, whatever, and put them in a locked file. It was NO BIG DEAL.

Which is cheaper? Erecting a six foot wire fence? Or, having troops stationed every couple hundred feet? With a six foot fence you could have someone (wouldn't have to be military) every 1,000 feet. Maybe it time to turn this over to a private (United States based, please) security firm. Put it up for bid. Pay them by the mile. I was a government contractor for a number of years. It never ceased to amaze me just how effective the bidding process was.

We are going to get 'hosed' big time. I can feel it coming. They do not give a damn about the American people. It is only personal power that is important to these bastards ... and that includes Bush. They are going to give away the store. Bush caused this crisis...

This makes me sick.

Do not tell me that you cannot enforce the law, Mr. Bush!!!

Toss the employer in jail, with a HUGE fine for each illegal hired. Problem will solve itself.

That was me, Dane. And I said right after you started comparing this Constitutional Democracy to Soviet Russia.

I couldn't believe my lying eyes when I read that particular Dane post.

Sad.  Kinda like Ferdinand Lundberg writing back in the sixties in his massive study, The Rich and The Super Rich, where he claimed the only difference between the Soviet Union and the United States was that Americans enjoyed a longer civil leash.  Sad.

The other problem with immediate deportation is that each and every one of the deportees is entitled to a court hearing.

I live near the Mexican border and I see the Border Patrol picking up border intruders by the dozens. They process them quickly and bus them back to the border. There is no court hearing. None.

How are you doing these days? Your translations of Iraqi documents are great. You're doing a terrific job on translations.

WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS

Sure we can you just don't want to. Enforce the law and cut off cash flow most will go home. Can't believe folks support this. He sounds just like Ted Kennedy.

"...to do jobs Americans won't do."

I hope this is not in the speech.

Agreed. This is not the mood we wish to have reinforced.

No one here finds hiring people to do home improvement "evil" and all that other crap you keep posting that we find evil (farmers, contractors, lettuce pickers, dry wallers, etc.) That's just a stupid, inflammatory argument that you keep posting that no one buys into. It makes you look stupid. You may want to stop

Uh spiffy, my rhetoric is not going after(in your rhetoric) those guilty before innocent businesses(ala buchanan and tancredo).

BTW, you do know that your hero tancredo has never worked in a wealth producing private business, he has worked the majority of his career in the public sector(like most democrats do).

The only poll that matters is in November. I am afraid that the republicans may be in for a nasty surprise. We'll see.

You have no problem with me being accused of opposing the rule of law,

Lemura and I have never uttered a racist word here. Yet, right in this thread, you have said that you oppose the enforcement of our current immigration laws which call for deportation of illegal aliens. That is the prescribed penalty for being here illegaly. You oppose that, then you oppose the rule of law.

Why do you oppose the rule of law?
