Whatever equilibrium reaching takes place will be gradual enough that the illegals can be replaced by entry level kids (i.e., moving into construction trades) and legal immigrants.
There are plenty of would-be leaders, but few are electable, and all are somewhat fixated on one or another aspect of governance rather than all the world of reality and the possible or desirable. Besides, wishing for a leader could much more easily get a tyrant, a Stalin, as someone with all the qualities we might want in a perfect human being.

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!
Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.
I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.

The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.

What disingenuous rubbish!! We don't need to round up and deport millions of people, just like the IRS doesn't need to audit every single tax return just to ensure reasonable compliance.
Punishing employers, eliminating anchor babies, refusing driver's licenses to illegals, making it a felony for a non-citizen to vote, denying public benefits to illegals, deporting any illegals that come to the attention of law enforcement -- these are just some of the things our nation could make the climate so uncomfortable that a lot of them would just leave on their own, and a lot more would think twice about coming here in the first place.
Simple -- the MSM and the Left in general are using this issue to split the Right and make it easier to get back in power

For years all the pundits have been criticizing President Bush for not making use of the bully pulpit. So tonight he goes Prime Time, and every conservative commentator is already bashing him for what he will/won't say. They are making me so angry.
We NEVER heard Dems criticize Clinton. They all cooed what a great speaker he was, and he only mirrored what ever the audience in front of him wanted to hear at the moment. He has never held one principle above any other, except that he likes power and adulation.
All Bush gets is criticism. I am ready to scream!
The problem is the doublespeak BS of "pay a fine" is not amnesty.
They can't sell that.
It is amnesty for a price. Pay X dollars (which is CHEEP to BUT a us citizenship) and file four years of tax returns and study the multiple choice questions for bare minimum english 101 and TADA instant amnesty with a coat of cheep paint.
It seems they can't enforce the law on 11 million illegal aliens, but seem to relish harassing 40 million US citizens who use recreational drugs.
No manpower to enforce the borders, but plenty to overfly every residence in the USA two or three times a year looking for reefer patches.
I'll solve this in one step. Force ICE to pick up illegals from local jails. Give the county sheriff's office $500 a head for every illegal they arrest. I'd say in six months the problem would be greatly reduced.
We need a moratorium on all immigration to try and absorb what we have now.
The Kennedy 1965 Immigration act threw out all sanity in this area. It severely reduced European immigration and opened the floodgates to unassimable third worlders including huge numbers of hostile Muzzies.
