BUSH: WE CAN'T BOOT 11M ILLEGALS
NY Post ^ | 5/15/06

Posted on 05/15/2006 5:48:16 AM PDT by areafiftyone

May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

>I woud gladly pay for the additional expense even if it is all in addition.<

The loss of 11 million workers to the economy would throw us into a depression. You would have double digit inflation coupled with shortages of fresh produce and interruptions in the distribution of all types of merchandise.

The simple answer is

1) Close the border
2) Stop blocking employer access to the verification of SS numbers.
3) Implement a guest worker program with no path to citizenship.

Once employers have a tool to reject forged documents and are fined for hiring illegals only documented guest workers will be hired. The illegals will self-deport themselves to go home and get guest worker permits.

"The ones really being hurt by this are the young black men."

Tell that to my 53 year old white husband, who has been in the construction trade for over 25 years. Who has seen his wages decline and stagnate over the last 6 years or better. Just when we should be getting ready for retirement we're being driven into poverty instead.

It took me less than 5 minutes to find this:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1607072/posts

Majority of Americans support a guest worker program. In fairness, there were other polls with different questions suggesting that Americans also want tighter enforcement of immigration laws. But there was no poll indicating any substantial support for treating these people as criminals, rounding them up, deporting them, etc.

In such a small amount of time I was able to blow your "80%" assertion out of the water.

I agree with everything you are saying. I would add requirements for progress toward English fluency year to year, educational progress for dependent children, and a raft of other elements that would improve assimilation.

I would love to have the time to have an in depth discussion of the possibilities, but as I've said, none of them are possible until the "deport 11 million myth is busted".

You go research the polls that have come out over the past couple of months then come back and tell us how 80% of the American people think we ought to deport 11 million "criminal" immigrants.

We have state legislatures extending rights to illegals -- giving out drivers licenses, paying welfare benefits, offering public schooling and in-state tuition, etc. -- but people on this thread act like there is some overwhelming consensus to crack down on illegals. There isn't.

Except that President Bush is calling for a surrender to the 11 million criminal invaders within our borders. He won't even work to fight them over a period of time.

He is also sending the message that when a mob takes to the streets they can get what they want.

We must reject amnesty, but...........

George's real name must be Evan...Bushless.

Isn't it getting a little tiring how much George is always phoning up or and apologizing to Vincente?

He is congenitally incapable of compartmentalizing and disciplining himself on this issue. He will be lighting the last match to torch himself tonight...and he is not going to even know it was suicide. His ButtMonkeys are not cleaning up this mess!

He needs to just put up the fence, enforce the laws, ending catch and release, nad ignoring employer non-compliance...and get serious...about shutting up about "reform".

"Its not possible to deport 11 mil. at once"
I believe the number is over 20 mil. but who said you have to deport them at once. How about 250,000 per month?
Do this while enforcing the Employer end and very soon, the rest will self deport.
At the same time, build the fence so that no more could come in.
The NG on the Border will have to be well armed with the ability and willingness to use desdly force if neccessary.
We are in a war and under an invasion but Bush would rather piss on your shoes and tell you its raining.

Under current law they can not tell the employer.

We can't handle the present level of legal immigration, now they are talking about doubling it.

The backlog has been going on for years at the INS (now the USCIS). It has gotten better, then worse, in cycles over the years. 2002 was one of the worst years, when additional security checks were required for some applications.

Employment-based immigrants and citizenship applicants will wait one to two years and more. Some people haven't seen their spouses, children or parents for years. There are family members of green card holders who have been waiting for 17 years.

The USCIS receives approximately 6 million applications each year. USCIS backlog at the end of FY 2003 (September 2002) was 3.7 million cases, however, the backlog since then has been reduced by 212,000.

"Makes sense to me he should resign and let someone actually lead our nation."

Oyyy.....come on.
He is being realistic. It would be virtually impossible to enforce this deportation.

He is also sending the message that when a mob takes to the streets they can get what they want.

President Bush will capitulate to the marxist-organized mobs marching in the streets, but he won't listen to conservatives who put him into office and upon whom Republicans depend to be elected this November and in 2008. Madness.
