Government To Go After Employers Of Illegals?
The government lies so much about its intent to crack down on illegals that it is hard to take this seriously.
The government plans to crack down ever harder on employers who harbor and hire illegal immigrants, pursuing companies that ignore the law so they can exploit cheap labor.
"We are going to move beyond the current level of activity to a higher level in each month and year to come," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said yesterday. He pledged to "come down as hard as possible" on violators.
Has something changed? The trend in recent years has been toward weaker and weaker enforcement.

How about this... cut off Section 9, Medicare, WIC, food stamps, welfare, child daycare, and the zillions of entitlement programs and let the free market take its course. Oh, yeah, and bust the flea markets that they hold.
If the protests I walked in (by accident) were any indication, these are NOT frugal people contrary to stereotyping. Nearly everyone I saw had fat rolls and designer clothing, better clothing than what I wear/can afford & I'm not poor by a loooong shot. Without these freebies... I bet you'd see them struggling to live on their wages pretty danged quickly.
How to find out if they are illegal? First, ask them to speak english. No speeky, no workey!
Like the minutemen let us pull together thousands of Retired Americans who are willing to act as an oversight group to keep an eye on our Govt. in Action.
Check out every promise they plop on us and stick it in their ear when they fail.
I respectfully disagree that employers are prevented from asking about documents. I have an I-9 on file for every one of my employees, past or present. I take the following statement on the I-9 as a invitation to verify the documents presented:
CERTIFICATION: I attest, under penalty of perjury, that I have examined the documents presented by the above individual, that they appear to be genuine and to relate to the individual named, and that the individual, to the best of my knowledge, is eligible to work in the United States.
This would actually be unfair to employers. Employers are very limited in how far they can go in verifying ID and background, due to anti-discrimination laws.
__________
That's a load of hooie. I worked (until very recently) in the employment function of a large company. You have to provide proof of your ability to legally work in the US on your first day of work.
You can BS up to that point, but without the necessary documents, you're going home.
How about cutting off all government "benefits" to illegals. No public schools for their ninios, no subsidized housing, no free health care. You don't get rid of cockroaches by closing your doors - you get rid of them by cleaning your house.
Excellent. Then there ain't no need for Congress to do anything except give you more agents, guns, trucks and stuff.
It's become a question of just how stupid do they think we are. I view this whole deal as blackmail. The executive is effectively sending a message to Congress, if you vote for amnesty we'll enforce the law. What Congress ought to do is investigate why these laws haven't been enforced vigorously until today.
That's certainly an understatement:

And then there is 2004 where, under President Bush, only 3 notices of intent to fine employers of illegal aliens were done. 3!! But that was President Bush's worst year. Let's compare best years then.

As Michael Savage has suggested, we need one million Americans to show up enmasse to protest at the border. Memorial Day weekend (May 27, 28, 29) would be a good time, to show our military men and women, veterans, and those who fought and died in our country's defense, that we intend to hold the line. 250,000 in each of the four border states, shouldering American flags, or cardboard tubes in lieu of the rifles that we may have to resort to next! Most people are off Memorial Day. Drive down to the border with your family to show support. Neighboring States would be most welcome too. We need to show our government and spineless congress that we are serious and mean business. Let's flood the President, and congresscritters with e-mails, letters, faxes, phone calls, etc., every day until Memorial Day, to make sure they understand that we are watching, and that there will be repercussions for failing the American people.
" An employer crackdown is what could repatriate a lot of illegals quickly and cheaply."
I am all in favor of this........BUT: can we also crackdown on gov welfare agencies that give illegals benefits, How about public school administrators who can't wait to bring in illegals to bolster their roles. How about we arrest bankers who facilitate the illegals sending US $ back to prop up the Mexican economy.
Instead of just employers........how about a "crackdown" on all of the governmental agencies who pander to the illegals.
Maybe locking up a few of the politicans might do more to stem the tide than just employers.
In fact, there is a HUGE rally at the border being planned right now. Pay attention for information on that to be released in the near future. I believe they're looking at the first week in June. Get ready to travel. I won't have to go very far because I believe they're going to hold it right here in my County a few miles from my house.
Finally, someone who understands the employers' situtation!
I was a large employer in California for many years. ALL of my employees had the required documents on file...REAL looking documents. Did I suspect some were illegal...yes. But there was no method for me to detect forgeries. (These were NOT sub-par jobs...they paid about $50K a year). The fact that they spoke Spanish was a benefit for my company because my customer base was about 40% hispanic.
A system which simply verifies the SSN would be inadequate. The forgers often use valid numbers. The only real means of providing employers the ability to confirm eligibility would be to create a national ID for VALID workers (citizens/legal immigrants). But that opens a different hornets nest on these threads.
This or any other administration isn't going to do anything until whatever predetermined number of immigrants (legal & illegal) have crossed our borders. All these millions are not needed to continue or improve the lives of American citizens but they are necessary as revenue generating base to hold on to and expand their political power.
In the process, USA will be turned into what we can witness in the crowded cities of India, China and even Mexico City.
Instead of "fruited plains from sea to shining sea" we will have "crowded ghettos from sea to shining sea". These power hungry globalist basta*ds are turning the USA from a "melting pot" to a "sewer pit" and we, who still can avert a disaster, do nothing but elect and reelect the same crooks over and over because we feel comfortable being F...ed by someone familiar.
Have to keep the spice flowing, dontcha know.
BUMP
Yes. Enforcement of these laws has been winked at in the past and employers know this. In this sense they have been virtually encouraged to hire illegals. A warning that the honeymoon is over and that strict adherence to the law will be enforced in the future will be enough to convince many employers that it is their best interest to replace their illegals in an oderly way.
Now, I will say that the number and different types of "proof" documents is much too expansive, and probably subject to forgery, but that is changeable by law (and should be).
Call the issuing agency(ies) and back check. That's not particularly onerous for the Personnel department, since that is basically what a lot of them have started doing with resumes.
