Are Americans really that dumb?
Sunday, on "Meet the Press," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., making a case for the squishy Senate immigration reform bill, stated that three-fourths of the American people support "comprehensive" immigration reform.
"Comprehensive immigration reform" in the current political debate means making a lot of "feel good" promises about border security and enforcing immigration law, while opening the floodgates to 66 million more legal immigrants over the next 20 years and granting amnesty to the 11 to 20 million people who are living here illegally.
Of course, Graham doesn't use the word "amnesty." He calls it "creating a path to earned citizenship."

Stop Illegal Aliens In W.Va., Ohio
Ohio County Sheriff Tom Burgoyne at times has been outspoken in his criticism of federal immigration enforcement officials. In the past, Burgoyne has been known to complain that his deputies were told by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service to simply release illegal aliens because the federal agency didnt have the resources to deal with them. During recent months, however, ICE officials seem to have been more cooperative.
But the time may be coming soon when Burgoyne will be told that his department simply isnt allowed to apprehend illegal immigrants. The new message from ICE, backed by the American Civil Liberties Union, seems to be that local law enforcement agencies need to adopt a hands-off attitude toward illegal aliens.

Illegal aliens arrested in Edison NJ
EDISON (AP)
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security arrested 32 Indonesian fugitives here on Wednesday who had been previously ordered deported by
federal immigration judges, authorities said.
The department's Immigration and Customs Enforcement wing has detained the illegal immigrants pending their deportation back to Indonesia, said Michael Gilhooly, an agency spokesman.

Defending illegal aliens insults our intelligence
The immigration bill before Congress has some of the most serious consequences for the future of this country. Yet it is not being discussed seriously by most politicians or most of the media. Instead, it is being discussed in a series of glib talking points that insult our intelligence.
How many times have we heard illegal aliens are taking "jobs that Americans won't do?" Just what specifically are those jobs?

Feds Seize Yacht Used for Smuggling Aliens
by Jim Kouri -Two men from Brownsville, TX face federal criminal charges today after US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested them over the weekend for their role in smuggling six Mexican nationals by boat to Corpus Christi, Texas.
According to the ICE report, the six men were first smuggled into the United States from Mexico in McAllen, Texas. Then they were transported to South Padre Island, Texas. The yacht named Poca Mas left the Sea Ranch Marina in South Padre Island early Sunday morning. Shortly after lunch the yacht arrived in Corpus Christi, Texas, ICE agents arrested the two boat operators and the six smuggled illegal aliens, and seized the yacht.

Terrorist Loophole: Senate Bill Disarms Law Enforcement
The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA, S.2611) before the U.S. Senate is touted by proponents as a compromise, combining amnesty for current illegal immigrants with stepped-up enforcement provisions. Nothing could be further from the truth. A previously unnoticed provision in this complicated legislation would disarm Americas state and local police in the war against terrorism.
A Costly Lesson
One of most important lessons that the United States learned on 9/11 was that state and local law enforcement can be the difference between an unsuccessful terrorist plot and a devastating terrorist attack.
Five of the nineteen hijackers had violated federal immigration laws while they were in the United States. Amazingly, four of the five had actually been stopped by local police for speeding. All four terrorists could have been arrested if the police officers had asked the right questions and realized that they were illegal aliens.

NOW YOU KNOW WHICH SENATORS TO SLAM -- AND THANK
Mysteriously, the Senate kept secret nearly all day the roll call for the cloture vote this morning.
But we finally have it and you can know how your two Senators voted.
Final vote on S. 2611 should come Thursday.
Here's how I suggest you make the phone calls:
* If the Senator voted YES, but has shown signs in the past of opposing mass amnesties, it may be that this Senator traded his/her cloture vote for other considerations on other bills and matters. Slam these Senators pretty hard for allowing a vote tomorrow on a bill with such huge ramifications and so little preparation. But leave room for possibility that these Senators can still vote NO on Thursday.
* If the Senator voted YES and that is just what you expected, just slam the offices hard. You aren't likely to change a vote, but it is essential that we never stop calling and complaining to the true-blue open-borders folks. They must always and continuously feel some constituent pain every single time they vote badly.
* If the Senator voted NO, you can be pretty sure that he/she will vote NO on the final passage. You might want to give their staffs a rest and not call. If you do call, make it about 30 seconds long and just tell the staff how much you appreciate their Senator's cloture vote and that you know they will vote right and vote NO on final passage Thursday.

As I warned you might happen earlier this morning, many Senators who say they oppose the giant S. 2611 amnesty voted FOR cloture which shuts off debate and allows a final vote.
Only 41 votes against cloture would have stopped the bill.
But many Senators traded away their vote against cloture in order to get their amendments considered, or to get their future judicial nominations considered ... that type of thing.
Although everybody assumes that the amnesty will pass the Senate, we still have major goals to help us win while losing:
* If the majority of the majority Party (Republicans) vote NO on the final S. 2611, that will help our Republican allies in the House toe the line on compromise by saying they are in step with most Republicans in the Senate. This victory while losing would require a minimum of 29 Republican NO votes.
* If we can get 41 or more NO votes. That will show that it is possible to win a cloture vote in the future against bad legislation if there aren't a lot of procedural complications in back-room dealing.
* If the McCain wing of the Senate Republicans can be shown to be the definite minority wing of the Party. This would require a final Repubican vote of something like at least 21-35 for S. 2611. It is very important that many of the Republican fencesitters not see McCain as their shooting star but as a pair of concrete shoes sinking them in the public opinion pools of their states.
* Six Democrats voting against S. 2611. That isn't much, but it is really a significant number to try to keep Democratic national spokesmen from labeling the NO votes as racist, xenophobic.
Please use the phone links and phone numbers in the right hand column under ACTIONS IN BRIEF and keep phoning.
THANKS -- AND DON'T GIVE UP,
-- ROY

talking points :
Ask these Senators to admit that they really have little idea of the cost to taxpayers, of the effect on American workers' wages, of the effect on the environment, of the effect on national security.
History -- and probably your state's voters -- will judge harshly Senators who adopt the largest and most expansive immigration policy ever without careful evaluation.
The most prudent policy for the country and for their own political careers would be to put off a vote on this bill until there are more answers, you can tell them.
Mention that the Department of Homeland Security section that would be in charge of ensuring that the bill was executed properly has just now gone public with the opinion that it has no idea how it could handle the bill quickly and without massive fraud protecting the nation's security.
Always start and end with the appeal to vote NO on S. 2611.
Make clear to these Senators that having no bill come out of the Senate will be cheered by citizens like you as SOMEthing really good.
No. 1. If your Senators vote YES on S. 2611, they will spend the rest of their careers explaining why they voted to:
reward 8-12 million illegal aliens with an amnesty allowing them to permanently take American jobs and become U.S. citizens
entice millions more foreign workers to illegally enter our communities, crowd the housing and schools, take the jobs and depress the wages because they reasonably can believe they eventually will be given an amnesty, too
double legal immigration from 1 million to 2 million a year, when our traditional annual immigration has been only 250,000 and when most Americans say legal immigration already is too high
give out permanent green cards to up to 66 million foreign workers and dependents over the next 20 years
No. 2: S. 2611 is not just a controversial bill. Rather, it would dramatically change most occupations and communities in America with the largest movement of foreign workers in world history.
No. 3: If they vote for S. 2611, you are part of a large network of the state's voters who will work diligently to make sure:
that the public will come to know them by the nickname of Senator Amnesty
that they will be derided at every appearance as an enemy of the working families and local communities of your state.
No. 4: Emphasize that it is not being obstructionist to vote AGAINST cloture on S. 2611 because:
they know as well as you that the bill has not truly been investigated as to its overall effects and the ability of the government to carry it out without massive fraud and social disruption.
It just doesn't make sense to have a vote on this bill at this time. No matter what deals they may think they've made, they owe it to themselves and the people of your state to vote AGAINST cloture, against allowing the bill to have a chance to be passed at this time.
IF A SENATOR HAS AN OFFICE IN YOUR CITY, GO THERE TODAY
While their phones are ringing off the hook, the staffers would feel even more under fire today if as many of you as possible personally enter their offices.
Print out Grade Cards and Profiles so you can hand them to staffers and talk about past actions. Talk about how much better their Grade Cards will be with a NO vote on the amnesty.
Print out these talking points to use if you need them.
Talk through the specifics of what S. 2611 will do. Most staffers will have no idea of how radical this bill is.
