Iran poised to strike? Observers report Ahmadinejad sending secret signals of intent

Indicators observed by independent Iran watchers during the past week are raising the question that nuclear-seeking Iran is not merely playing a serious game of brinkmanship, but is actually preparing to strike at Israel, European and US interests.

Headlined "Iran declares war," a May 11 editorial in the New York Sun expressed the belief that a recent letter written by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which had been widely interpreted as a peaceful gesture, "is in fact a declaration of war."

According to the Sun, a coded message is contained in the closing section of the eight-page letter. While the rest of the message had been translated into English, the salutation in had not. It reads "Vasalam Ala Man Ataba'al hoda" and means "Peace only unto those who follow the true path."

Says the paper:

"It is a phrase with historical significance in Islam, for, according to Islamic tradition, in year six of the Hejira - the late 620s - the prophet Mohammad sent letters to the Byzantine emperor and the Sassanid emperor telling them to convert to the true faith of Islam or be conquered. The letters included the same phrase that President Ahmadinejad used to conclude his letter to Mr. Bush."

Concluded the Sun:

"For Mohammad, the letters were a prelude to a Muslim offensive, a war launched for the purpose of imposing Islamic rule over infidels."

Two days earlier, the CBN network's "700 Club" ran a special feature based on information just brought back from Iran by investigative reporter George Thomas.

Footage that surprisingly made it out of the Islamic Republic showed Ahmadinejad exhorting his countrymen, and specifically his troops, to prepare for martyrdom and their entry into paradise.

In an exclusive interview, an Iranian general told CBN his country planned to "teach the American Army a lesson they will never forget," which will eclipse anything they experienced in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Thomas also reported that 52,000 people are believed to have joined a new Iranian organization called the "Lovers of Martyrdom" whose goal is to place a "suicide" bomber unit into every division of the Iranian army.

Its men making maniacal statements, its women covered in heavy black cloth as they swear their allegiance to Allah and emphasize their eagerness to die in his service, these Muslim elite killers make Hitler's SS look tame.

Following his filed report, Thomas showed his viewers a picture of Ahmadinejad taken a week ago, in which the president was seen to be sporting a black and white keffiyeh around his neck.

Said Thomas:

The would-be suicide bombers "wear this scarf that is similar to the one worn by the Palestine Liberation Organization."

"When they wear this scarf they told me it means: I am ready, I am purified, I am militarily trained, I am Islamically pure to commit a suicide attack right now…

"What is interesting is that this week, President Ahmadinjad was wearing a similar scarf in a similar way."

The Iranian leader seemed to be sending his own message, that he is ready and willing to be a martyr for Allah.

Ahmadinejad has almost daily made threats against Israel while telling the world he will not allow it to impede his efforts to obtain nuclear power.

In a speech last month, the Iranian demagogue declared:

"The Zionist regime of Israel is like a rotten, dried tree that will be annihilated by one storm."

CBN President Pat Robertson asked Thomas to explain about the concept of the Mahdi or 12th Imam the Islamic world has been and is looking for.

According to Thomas:

"Ahmadinejad believes that he has been chosen – he has a divine mission – to usher in the 12th Imam – the Mahdi.

"He believes that in order for this Mahdi to return … the entire world should be filled with chaos; there should be a battle between good and evil – in his mind between the east and the west."

It was into this situation of universal chaos that the Mahdi would come to establish peace and justice in the earth.

Thomas said rumors in Iran were that Ahmadinejad has ordered the city of Tehran to prepare a route for the Mahdi to take upon his return.

"We were at this parade, and in all his statements he tells his people: 'Prepare in your hearts for the return of the Mahdi...' Speaking to his troops he actually said: 'You are the men who have been commissioned to usher in the return of the Mahdi.'"

Responding, Robertson described Ahmadinejad as "nuts … out of his mind."

But Thomas cautioned that the Iranian leader was actually "a deeply religious man" described by many in his country as "the most fanatical leader they have ever had."

"The thing that makes this very dangerous is that you have Ahmadinejad’s nuclear ambitions coupled with his interest in wiping Israel off the face of the earth; and then he has this religious, ideological bent."

Last week, US President George W. Bush told the German newspaper Bild the United States and Europe were taking Ahmadinejad's threats "very seriously."

Bizarrely, Israeli media were reporting at the weekend the words of a Tel Aviv history professor who apparently said that the death of a million Jews in an Iranian nuclear strike would not mark the end of Israel.

Quoted in Ynetnews, Aviad Kleinberg said that although it was unclear "whether Israel can withstand the death of a million people in an Iranian nuclear attack," such a strike would nonetheless "not be the end of the Jewish State."

The academic warned world leaders not to simply write Ahmadinejad off as a psychopath:

"I'm not at all certain that he's insane. I’m afraid he's playing a much more complex game; and this is a dangerous game. One cannot simply assume that Ahmadinejad is bluffing. In certain instances you don't have a choice but to assume that the other side is not bluffing."

Which brings me to one of my hobby horses:

We already agree that our calendar is wrong, off by anywhere from 2 to 16 years, depending on who's doing the reckoning, and further in error because of the absence of a year zero.

The more fundamental point is that God did not intend us to mark His years by the birth of Jesus.

If He had intended this we would have a Biblical fixing of the date.

Further, the day of Jesus' birth is unremarkable as all men are born.

However, very few return from the dead, that event is remarkable, and it is the defining moment of Christianity, the very moment of proof that his sacrifice was not in vain. And the Bible gives a precise reference for when this happened!

Clearly this was the date the calender was supposed to start!

For extra points, this makes our calender off by anywhere from 17 to 30 years. That makes this something like Holy Year 1988 to Holy Year 1975, giving us anywhere from 12 to 25 years to get our affairs in order before the real end of the millennium...

They supposedly have subs and don't foret the Arrow missile and Patriot 3 batteries. In the event of an Iranian missile attack, not many would make it to Israel, thus giving them ample resources for the 1st and last counter attack.

The Israeli Navy has three Dolphin-class, diesel-electric submarines that they bought from Germany and they have more on order. Some of the boat's torpedo tubes are over-sized so they can fire cruise missles armed with nukes. Two of the boats are always on patrol.

Bush turns out to be the 12th Imam

Bush's inept communication skills give him a lot in common with the next Imam. Both are at the bottom of a well and hard to understand. At least you can lower a note to the Imam.

Can't wait for tomorrow's speech. ¡Viva mí presidente!

I can't dispute the year other than it's close, but I find it interesting that the muzlims seems to think it is now...And theoretically, they aren't following the bible, but have their own source of prophecy...

We can only hope and pray that when the bomb goes off, it is not in our neighborhood.

We had best also hope and pray that a left wing Democrat administration is not in power when and if the bomb goes off.

I'm not at all convinced that such a C in C would take the step of a nuclear reply to a nuclear attack unless the bomb strikes on US soil and millions of American die. Most prominent Democrats don't seem to have any commitment at all to the the survival of Israel, in fact some things I read from the far left show a bitter hatred for Israel that rivals their hatred for Bush and conservatives. Hard to believe, but many of those deluded fools would be in sympathy with the mad mullahs of Iran against both Israel and our own armed forces in an armed conflict. In fact, they take that position now regarding our involvement in Iraq.

A Democratic administration might not sacrifice Israel to save us from nuclear retaliation, in fact it probably wouldn't unless the radical left gains more strength and influence than it has now. But the Islamic militants may believe it would, and the result would be the same as far as American and Israeli casualty figures.

Perhaps one or more of those nukes are already in Iran, just waiting to be detonated if it becomes necessary. Just saying.

Why bother, Israel's nukes are much more secure sitting in heavily guarded silos in Israel, than one or three would be squirreled away in Iran. They are just as useable too. The delay between launch and detonation will not be lengthy, as close as Israel and Iran are.

"When they wear this scarf they told me it means: I am ready, I am purified, I am militarily trained, I am Islamically pure to commit a suicide attack right now…"

Faulty translation. It really means, "Hey, look at me -- I'm a self-designated target!"

IMO, any middle easterner wearing one of those "scarves" -- or appearing in public with his face covered -- should be the immediate recipient of a .308 (or larger) sniper round.

Then why all the trash talk, deliberately provocative? If the cinder ending holds no gain for Iran, then either they believe they can prevent it, or else they are only threatening it without intending to actually carry it out.

I think it is more dangerous than that. I believe that nut job in Iran believes this "12th" Iman will use divine powers to protect Iran from destruction.

Ishaq:208

“When Allah gave permission to his Apostle to fight, the second Aqaba contained conditions involving war which were not in the first act of submission. Now we bound themselves to war against all mankind for Allah and His Apostle.

He promised us a reward in Paradise for faithful service. We pledged ourselves to war in complete obedience to Muhammad no matter how evil the circumstances.”

The really sad part about all this is that it is apparent that the first strike MUST be made by iran just to prove that the U.S. "is not like them". P.C. run amok.

I used to hold strongly to this perspective as well...that before any action could be taken, to satisfy our extreme political pacifism in the west, that first Iran must take get in the first strike...

Now, I don't even think that would be enough...as long as they covered their tracks (using proxies or terrorists) well enough to cause doubt sufficient to survive an hour of CSI Las Vegas, well, I'm thinking that would probably be enough to get the Left in the West to run to their defense. Which is enough to keep our politics so toxic that action in defense of the nation will be an impeachable offense.

After all we deserve it anyway because we created Haliburton.

There is no doubt that these are guys are saddled up in a religious sense. And unlike Saddam, Ahmadinejad is devout and his belief that allah will assure islamic victory is THE ULTIMATE "article of faith."

It will be interesting to see if someone fitting the description of the Mahdi appears on the scene after the battle commences.

I say that Israel now has their fingers on the buttons of many Neutron warheads -
-and they won't wait until they get hit first!

An indicator of a pre-emptive attack with their neutron arsenal (by Israel) might show with the sudden rise in the price of oil and gold bullion tomorrow and Tuesday.

You tag line is interesting.

I have given that matter a little thought and have concluded that no wise father would give his children wealth that they neither earned nor had the wisdom to manage. Such windfalls can only cause temptation and ultimately lead to evil.

Accordingly, I think God permitted Satan to give the oil to the Arabs. Satan either didn't understand the destructiveness of greed or he does understand it fully and didn't really care about it deleterious effects on the arabs...because he knew it would serve his evil purposes in the end.

And has it ever!
