There is a rapidly congealing consensus about Hillary Clinton among Democrats. The first is that its hard to see how she can be stopped from becoming the partys nominee for president in 2008. The second is that nobody really wants her to be the nominee. If this sounds familiar, it is. The Democrats had exactly the same feelings about their last two nominees, Al Gore and John Kerry. They both lost, of course, although there will always be an asterisk next to the name Gore on that one.
Most Democrats I know also fear that, at an unusually propitious time for their party, Hillary could lose the White House for them again as well. In almost every straw poll she loses big to potential rivals such as John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. About a third of the country already strongly disapproves of her. Unlike McCain and Giuliani, her unfavourable ratings actually beat out her favourable ones. And thats after five years of very careful and very good PR.
The inevitability argument for Hillary is a strong one. In some ways she is now following George W Bushs tack in 2000. She has amassed way more money than any of her rivals more than $40m at the last count and has a nepotistic connection to the last president in her own party. Her name recognition is through the roof. She lives in that rare pantheon of women whose global reach overwhelms the need for any surname: Diana, Oprah, Madonna, Condi, Hillary. In the latest polls of Democrats, Hillary is favoured by 38% of potential primary voters. Kerry is second with 14%.
Chuck Todd, editor of Washingtons Hotline put her position thus: Frankly, to call her an 800lb gorilla would be underselling her.

But she carries large support with the Democratic base: al Quada, illegal immigrants, Communists, Members of ALF and ELF, people who can't read, the dead, people in comas...
You could be right (and hopefully you are). Just don't ever underestimate the gullibility of the American electorate. ;-)
She doesn't have a chance, but makes for a convenient boogey-man...
LOL! Very true. But she can also carry support from the myriad of fence sitters --people who don't pay a whole lot of attention to politics and current events but feel that it is their civic duty to stand in line once every four years and cast a vote for president.
"The fastest way to stop McCain is for someone else to beat him in New Hampshire. Right now, I don't see that happening."
McCain is dead meat, I don't doubt he can pick up 30% in a primary, and will pick up states, but he is Bob Dole old, subject to temper fits and carrying CFR and the Gang of 14 on his back. It just ain't gonna happen.
Which Democrat will take Hillary on? They need to make a hard decision between now and Christmas. And have a lot of guts.
None of the Democrat wannabenahmmanees will have the nerve to bring up such subjects as...
-the Rose Law Firm billing records,
-Craig Livingstone,
-Travelgate,
-the pardoning of the FALN terrorists,
-Filegate,
-Cattlegate,
-the secrecy surrounding the (failed) Hillarycare,
-the secrecy of Hillary Rodham's Wellesley senior thesis,
-her indoctrination into the fifth column at the knee of Saul Alinsky,
-the allegations of high-order sleights of hand in the Peter Paul "issue",
and let's not forget the White House furniture and silverware that was somehow mistakenly stolen.
I can predict with confidence that the the pusillanimity of potential Democrat nominees will prevent them from offending Hillary Rodham.
Hillary will get the nomination walking away, it's all over but the voting.
.
You're telling me you'd rather see Hillary Clinton in the White House than McCain or Giuliani...is that what you're saying. You won't vote for the Republican...whoever it is...against Hillary?
- and make some money being right about it.
Right now, McCain is at 38, Allen 18, Romney 14, Guiliani 12. Each pays 100 if that one is nominated and 0 if they aren't.
Personally I'd prefer Cheney or Rumsfeld, neither of whom are running, or Gingrich, who is at 2 and doesn't realistically have a chance. If I have to pick from the others I'll probably vote for Romney in the primaries. Whoever gets it, I'll vote for against the beast in the fall.
I've been thinking about making a Tradesport bet. Even if you think McCain is the man, the numbers don't look right.
On track for what .. an orange jumpsuit ..??
As for her feigned "it's disturbing" .. she didn't think it was disturbing when her husband signed the bill into law. So .. again .. we have the pres wannabe - lying through her teeth. While she's busy with her pals calling Bush a liar .. she's the one who's lying.
She may think she's on track .. but I wouldn't bet my money on it.
Her in prison would be an answered prayer,I'd be satified if she'd just be driven from public life.
Because they continuously complain that the Republicans are dividing the nation, they think Hillary will bring the nation together? Stuff like this just shows their totally corruption in in their quest for power.
So what you're saying is the grassroots R's are a bunch of immature, tantrum throwing children who, if they don't get everything they want, will take their toys to a different party? That's just shameful and dangerous. And, it won't happen.
You just proved what I said 100%. Fool.
Thanks for listening. You're such a blessing!
McCain is not a "retooled RAT". Like him or not he has a lifetime ACU rating of 83.
