I don't know. If I were gay and in a relationship, why not give power of attorney to my lover, leave a will and make sure all items are in order at my time of death. Oh, and of course, if sperm donor children are involved, the same thing. Now, what rights other than property rights upon marriage between a man and a woman have I missed. Oh, please don't through health benefits into the whole mess. You barely save anything married or single from company 'group' benefits anyway.

OK, you're basically talking about rights associated with marriage, which some companies provide anyway through domestic partner benefits. So that's really one thing. To say "a fraction of the rights"? A little over the top.
