I implore ANYONE who has teenage daughters to read this article. We have sexualized young girls so much in this society, that I truly believe this girl didn't think she was doing anything wrong.

Sure she knew she was doing something wrong. Why do you think she lied about her age??
She wanted to hook up with some guy, a much older guy.
No dad mentioned, a sleazy, sex-oriented webpage, mom doesn't know anything about this, 13 yo hooking up with an adult man, having already had a boyfriend.... recipe for getting what she was asking for too. This one's going to lead this mom on a merry chase, let me assure you!
I don't envy her mom at all. Too bad she didn't impart some values before, when she still could've.

The man's movements were tracked through his cell phone's GPS locator, and police stopped the man's car on Interstate 94.

This caught my attention. I must admit that my knowledge about such things is a bit out of date. Last I knew, cell phones did not provide a way for the cell phone company to pinpoint your EXACT location, as with a GPS. The company could tell which tower was currently receiving your signal, and as such knew your GENERAL location, but that was it. Have they started installing GPS locaters in cell phones now?? When did they start doing that?? They were mighty quiet about it.

Thank God this girl is safe. In this case, the secret GPS in the cell phone was used for good, but I can also see how it could be mis-used. Even though I never do anything illegal, I don't want my cell phone company keeping track of my exact movements whenever I am carrying around my powered-on cell phone. Big brother is watching (and maybe someday, Hillary too!!), and probably taking notes (via logging the GPS tracking data on a computer somewhere).

It seems they have, I noticed that there was an option in my Settings called Location which allows the network to track you. It's turned on by default.

The exact text of the warning in my phone.

"Turning location off will disable the GPS function for all purposes except 911, but will not hide your general location based on the cell site serviing your call."

So 911 can zero in on you with it.

Thanks for the tip. My phone was set like that too.

I went and checked my cell phone. I found the same thing, except my location tracking was turned "OFF". But like you stated, the disclaimer on my phone said that 911 would still receive my location, no matter what. It makes you wonder if there are other "undocumented" ways for the phone company to secretly turn "ON" that GPS locator, should they want to!!

The only way to not be tracked by cellphone is to take the battery out or take the chip out.
