Headline only so far...
"AOL Poll:"
I gave up on AOL two years ago. I kept it on the cheaper "bring your own access" plan, because I enjoyed the huge variety of message boards there, even though I had a superior ISP, for years prior. The place had always been more on the liberal side, but in the last couple of years, it was overwhelmed by organized leftist posters who were very aggressive. In light of this, I'd say that this AOL poll came out so lopsided indicates not just very upset and motivated conservative members, but also more than just a minor percentage of people I would identify as liberal who are equally bothered by the situation.
Illegal allian and Mexican are interchangeable. I'm a racist so why should the term bother anyone else. It is just that this racism drips with hatred.
Half the people here would just as soon set up concentration camps and gas chambers as deport them where they will come back. That way you can be a true "Conservative" and not just a Rockefeller Republican.

Yeah some civil debate. If you have been following I have asked where they are going to get the workers to replace them after they are all deported and yet to get a "civil" answer. Why, because they have no real answer only hatred for President Bush and Mexicans.

Yeah vilify the small businessmen who are the heart of our economy. Should you take their businesses away from them too or just throw them in jail and bankrupt them for hiring Mexicans? When did hard core Republicans become so much like Anti-business Rats? Should we have more gummit or just nationalize the farms?
Seems easier to build those concentration camps?

"WHY didn't NAFTA work? My surmise is that something in the Mexican economic/social/political system screwed it up."
My impression is that the so-called "great big sucking sound" was diverted to China when MFN status was bestowed upon them. And, this diversion in turn created a vacuum that sucked cheap, illegal labor into the United States from Mexico.
Gotta chase the absolute bottom dollar labor cost, no matter what. It's written in stone. /sarc
How much diffeence did MFN make on the number of Chinese imports vs. Mexican imports? How many factories relocated to China from Mexico? I don't know the answers to this, but it would be interesting to find out.
As far as a source for my impression, I can only offer anecdotal evidence from textile company owners that I have done business with. Efforts at setting up shop in Mexico didn't last long after Most Favored Nation status was granted to China. Other than that, I do recall hearing gripes about the "mañana, mañana" business ethic in Mexico.
"you really don't need to be offering opinions"
Excuse me???? and YOU're who????
The immigration problem hardly began May 1st when the anti-American crowds formed those protests.
"Nothing he does is right by them"
No kidding! Wait for the bash on Monday night!! We can find this kind of trash on DU!!
Employers can verify social security numbers.

While the service is available to all employers and third-party submitters, it can only be used to verify current or former employees and only for wage reporting (Form W-2) purposes.
I'm sure. It's gotta suck being called out and publicly embarassed.
Conservatives should also be able to comprehend the difference between viewing a problem as serious and viewing the hysterical goons railing incoherently about said problem as a joke.
Based on US Census data, the foreign born population in North Carolina went from 115,380 in 1990 to 436,513 in 2000. The number of Mexican born residents went from 8,751 in 1990 to 179,236 in 2000. Something is indeed happening and these numbers are understated if anything given the difficulties the Census Bureau has in recording the presence of illegal aliens.
[Take the captured illegals, and sentence THEM to build the fence!...]
Hmmm.
MFN status was granted to the PRC in 1979 and was renewed every year until 2000 when the PRC entered the WTO, which obviated the requirement to grant MFN.
Sorry, I'm way behind on this thread. Hope your question was answered.
You're correct, I conflated the two, three letter acronyms. Mexico lost out to China following that country's entrance into the World Trade Organization or WTO in 2000. Most Favored Nation status, or MFN, was no longer applicable.
