Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.
The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".
Gibson must be affected temporarily by the B.O. of Danny Glover. Surely he will get over this and back to Conservatism and reality.
I watched The Passion again, this year, during Lent, thinking I just wasn't in to it last year.
I find it less than inspiring, with so much focus on the bloody scourging.
The Passion only makes sense in light of Jesus' entire life, and the flashbacks (some of which were pure fantasy) just weren't enough.
Ever seen Gibson do an interview? His nuttiness comes through loud and clear.

If the terrorist threat was not just real but highly dangerous and serious, they would have long ago started blowing up railroad tank cars full of chlorine and other toxic inhalation hazards in urban areas. Doing this is as straight-forward as setting off a back-pack bomb, and there is absolutely zero security measures in place to prevent it. They would also be attacking completely unprotected systems to cause major mischief and chaos, such as the power grid, oil pipelines, fresh water supplies and farm irrgation channels.
If you've had your eyes open the past 5 years, you'll have noticed a massive increase in suspicion of ordinary Americans by the police (are WE the terrorist threat?), and a conjoined loss of simple freedoms (such as innocently taking pictures, dropping off large parcels on the postal counter or in a mailbox, anonymous travel, or meeting loved ones at the airport gate).
What the past 5 years have really shown is that government officers at all levels are deathly afraid of we the people."
My Lord, I disagree.
The terrorist cells in this country know they will have only one opportunity (albeit widespread and in many locations). Once they start striking, the authorities and no doubt some average citizens will start rounding them up.
In addition, it would be foolish to assume that there have not been significant interceptions and interdictions along the way.
The officers are not scared of 'we the people'. They are 'we the people' too.
Perhaps My Lord should get out more?

You want to see abject "fear" and real "police powers" then just wait til some islamic lunatic detonates a 6 kiloton device near the capitol building during a joint session of Congress. Do you even think about the potential cost of not trying to ferret out the jihadists among us?
Try to imagine what might happen to your freedom and civil rights were the above scenario ever to happen. You have not seen anything yet.....and I hope the President can overcome politics and such short-sightedness so you never have to.

What's an antiwar conservative? Does that mean you don't fight back when attacked? Cowardly morons such as he can only get more Americans killed.
I'm probably alone in this, but it bugged me that he had the Romans speaking Latin rather than Greek. Greek was the universal language of the eastern Mediterranean. Just about everybody spoke it, at least to some extent, as did all upper-class Romans. So the Romans would have used Greek to communicate with their Jewish subjects.
OTOH, Latin sounds very cool.

He is still one of my favorite actors.
Never could make it through any of Mel's "films", except The Passion of the Christ. And I knew how that one was going to turn out.
Braveheart was so tedious it hurt my head.
