Just announced on Fox News that President Bush is to address the nation at 8pm Eastern on Monday May 15th to speak on immigration.
He's nominating Harriet Miers to head up the task force.
We will get a song and dance about more resources being directed towards securing the borders, but it will be largely cosmetic. He will cite percentages rather than real numbers, e.g., doubling the number of border patrol agents but not mentioning that we only have 10,000 agents now for both borders. Fences or physical barriers will probably not be mentioned, and if they are, it will used in the context of other measures. There will be a heavy emphasis on technical means including drone aircraft.
In sum, Bush will give us a "Rodney King solution," i.e., "Can't we all just get along." He will praise the immigrants, legal and illegal, as hard workers with families in pursuit of the American dream. He will promise a crack down on employers. He will promise secure borders. He will promise that this is not amnesty and that the undocumented workers will have to get to the back of the line. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
Mr. President at this point I really don't care what you think, just get these people out of here and protect our borders now! I'm sorry if this sounds harsh people, but I've had about enough of this.
Thanks for your efforts.
"Well between the Senate doing a compromise last night and the president's feelings about immigration we can forget about the 12 million illegals getting sent back to their countries. "
Maybe. Might be ironic if the illegals themselves end up 'saving' the party. How? It doesn't matter what the Senate or the President decide, what they are offering is not what those 12 million plus illegals are demanding and are, as they've stated, "no longer afraid", "have nothing to lose", and are "willing to revolt (La Revolucion) to get". Their revolution might just be what is needed to end any further talk about 'earned' amnesty and to shut down the borders. In fact, I'm not convinced that D.C. isn't counting on it.
Gee and there is no responsibility for this on our representatives that never support his agenda. Just watch how quick they tear apart anything he says and make sure whatever he wants does not get through.
That way, they appease the democrats and can survive in the congress a while longer. Yellow-bellied fish that are selling us down the river on each and every piece of legis. or action that comes up.
Well between the Senate doing a compromise last night and the president's feelings about immigration we can forget about the 12 million illegals getting sent back to their countries. Now about sealing the border we need to get on their backs
I guess that's your way of saying "I can't point out a specific lie, but I'm going to keep calling Bush a liar."
You've nailed it.
In other news:
'Thanks for fixing my head'
By Stephen Hull, Metro

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards yesterday thanked the ' beautiful ladies' who treated him in hospital after an operation to relieve pressure in his head.
I think it's a toss up between the president and our GOP senators as to which are more conservative. Certainly W is not as conservative as the GOP represenatives in the house.
Not according to some of the positions he took on his talk show. He was very against both of those.
Thank you. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who got the impression that on his radio show Tony was more about guest-worker programs and less about border security.
"My American friends! The United States now is "States of Mexico"!
Translation for us ENGLISH speaking Freepers.
Immigration is a complex issue. Many of the people who claim to have strong views on immigration are actually promoting a racist point of view. Others, I would hope the majority, have objections based on the inherentent unfairness of the current practices. Business leaders overwhelmingly support a guest worker program. Regardless of where you fit in this debate, the President is caught in a really difficult position between multiple voices in his own party. Perhaps everyone's interest is best served if we all just tone it down a notch or two.
President Bush has more than one reason to address the Nation on the 15th.

The stunning irony alone makes this exchange worth my time.
That's why I have to bring my own. I have to carry in those little mustard packets too.
He won't do a complete turn-around ... but I would be surprised if he doesn't make some strong overtures toward the conservative base ... and improving security at the border.
I simply cannot imagine him going on national TV and rubbing McCain/Kennedy in the face of angry conservatives.
Alas, it's all guesswork at this point though.
