There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.
We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.
So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?
Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.
Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.
And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.
Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.
Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.
It could take another forty years to get it back.
Well said.
Political power is a numbers game. If you are not in the majority, you don't get to set policy (unless you are the Democrats and weenie Republicans let you. :)
The lamest R.I.N.O. still counts as 1 more "R" in the big equation to determine who rules the roost.
Superstars are great to lead a team, but if most everyone in the Party isn't pulling his weight, it opens up gaps that the opposition party can and will exploit to their advantage.
Many of our Republican leaders in Washington and at our state capitols and maybe even locally aren't carrying their load or worse acting like Democrats by ignoring fundamentals of the Republican Party Platform.
Not only is it our duty to remind them of their failings, but to do our most vital duty and vote for the best Republican candidate that follows the Platform the best in their drafting of legislation and in voting (signing) for or against (vetoing) legislation brought before them. The time to hold their feet to the fire is in the Primary election.
If the best candidate in a particular race doesn't win the Primary, then pass over that choice on the ballot and support the other Republican candidates on the ballot that do "walk the walk".
You only hurt the conservative cause if you cross over and vote for a candidate of an opposing party or just sit out the entire General Election.
("I simply do not remember getting out of bed.")
You haven't, and you haven't woken up either.
BTW...it is against FR's posting rules to talk to a third party, about someone else, and NOT ping that person to YOUR post. Talk about an arrogant, proudful (sic) person...........go look into the nearest mirror and then, also remember that YOU are the the rule breaker and the one calling names here.
"It's those who are becoming irrational and hysterical over the issue that are making fools of themselves and their tantrums are not productive."
My goodness, did you say this? I think you should be banned for your condescending attitude toward your fellow Freepers. Let's see, calling us irrational, hysterical, fools, throwing tantrums, hmmmmmm......
It's not a matter of "Company line". You assume far too much about the people you are posting to and in general, you are rude and obnoxious. That is not an insult, that is a fact. But I doubt you will acknowledge that either. There are facts on the border security/immigration issue that you also refuse to acknowledge. That makes any debate with you irrelevant and nonproductive.
Good evening.
I'm hardly nuts, but what you said about your former Governor and a Dem appointed judge would indicate a certain mount of self inflicted wounding. Now, again,I do not for a second think you and the people who pushed Prop 187 into being fall into this catagory. Unfortunately, plenty of your fellow citizens were more than happy to accept the reversal. Sort of like the blockheads here who vote for Blank-o
Get back to me when you learn the rules here and when you get an education.
Enjoy the Democratic victories in November engendered by divided conservatives.
The Dems are using the oldest trick in the book, and you're falling for it.
"If the 'Pubbies don't get with the program, they will go down to ignominious defeat in November, and they will deserve every bit of it."
Your statement might or might not be true. If it does happen, what effect will that have in '08 on Condi Rice or whomever the GOP nominates? (Couldn't help but notice your tagline.)
"Shut-up and get me a sandwich."
Sandwich. That reminds me, I'm hungry. Time to go forage for a meal and deal with food for the tummy as versus food for thought, enjoyable as that might be. To the kitchen I go, and leave this thread to those wishing to continue to reach for each others' jugular veins. Enjoy.
But then, the Ill. GOP was destroyed, from within, before I left the state, and NO, before you ask, I had nothing at all to do with its ruination.
Don't vote for them in the primaries. In the general vote for the more conservative candidate or hold your nose and vote R. If they don't like drilling in Alaska send them a letter or email letting them know you would like for them to concentrate on problems facing their own states before nosing around in Alaska. You might ask them to start promoting more natural gas being pumped to the Northeast so the area can reduce its dependency on heating oil and/or coal.
But, that is NOT something the general public, nor even politicians, for that matter, consider, when talking about our borders. You can go back to President Washington, who had once been a surveyor and well knew geometry and topography, and not find him, nor any other FF talking about it. :-)
If your going to count coasts then we have 7 borders. Gulf Coast, Pacific, Atlantic, North Atlantic (Alaska), Mainland/Canada, Alaska Canada, and Mexico.
Irrational people and hysterical people do make fools of themselves and tantrums are not productive. Do you now wish to even argue that? Do you wish to say that there are no irrational and/or hysterical people posting on FR?
I did not personally attack anyone when making that comment. Surely you don't think YOU fit that description, or do you? hmmmmmmm........
If you want to vote for RINO's that have no spine, more power to you then. I sure in the hell won't.
That's rich coming from you. ROFLMAO!
Many Catholics ,such as Sen Brownback, and other Evanglicals find themselves in a situation where neither side is going to be pleased by a stance that tries to honor both sides in this debate and the moral obligations of both. That is the State and the illegal alien.
That's the problem. You can't please both sides. Either our borders mean something and have to be honored, or they don't. We can't be a bleeding heart to the whole world. And that's the problem with the liberal on social issues part of the Catholic Church. It puts its emphasis on aiding the illegals under a misconception of doing good for the few (the illegals), while doing great harm to the many (our country). No borders, no country.
