Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

Right now I'm having a hard time telling the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Then dare I say you're not paying attention to ALL of the issues that face this nation? The difference between the two parties is hugh and series!

"Don't some of you think it's at least a good idea to see Harry Reids or Pelosi's immigration plan before we cut off our nose to spite our face?"

Pay attention. Harry Reids immigration plan is the same as Frist's and the President's, open borders and amnesty

Nice try, democrat. Jenny pointed out from whence comes this inflammation over the border invasion and you try to divert attention to a strawman. You're now as transparent as cellophane. Your game is pure infammation and nothing constructive... and you have lots of associates of late here at FR.

"Anyway, there are a lot of single issue freepers and that issue is immigration. Basically, these single issue voters are not conservatives. Like other single issue voters, they may not even be normal people (who are usually multi issue voters)."

Thats simply not true. Immigration is one of the most important issues for those people. We correctly realize that our nation is under invasion, and our own president cheers it on. 23 thousand Americans have be murdered by illegals since 9-11, and many others killed in car accidents many times without insurance by immigration.

Jeez, I've been gone for awhile. I don't even recognize FR anymore. Our boys are in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran's breathing down our neck with nukes, the democrats want to start an impeachment process against our Commander-In-Chief, and all some of you can do is whine about YOUR needs not being met. Talk about piling on. I'm nauseated.

You're not alone! Pass the barf bucket, please. ;)

Yes, This is a team effort. When will the republican leadership come back to their base?

Sorry to inform you that it is a team effort and the republican leadership has come back to their base. It is just you are a one issue voter (immigration) and the repubs can not pass what you want because there are 45 dems in the senate who will block it.

We might have a future Congress that will all be guest worker program and no security whatsoever.

Unfortuntely, that's exactly what THIS bill is going to be. We already have plenty of border security laws on the books that are simply not enforced. What makes you think new laws will be? They are just a smoke-screen for getting the "guest worker"/amnesty part of the package through.

Conservatives are "do it you selfers"

Self inficted? Are you nuts?

We passed the first state bill attempting to deal with the issue back in 1994. When a nasty alliance between Gray Davis and an activist federal judge scuttled Prop 187 no one lifted a finger to help us, and certainly not the RNC which has done everything it can to prevent immigration problems from ever seeing the light of day.

The fact is the immigration issue has become the perfect storm here on FR

FR is one of many places. The same sentiment is in the other boards and groups...yahoo, USENET, Google political groups, regional groups and most of AM radio.

FR does NOT have a monopoly on this sentiment towards our leadership regarding illegals and the borders.

'Are people that clueless??'

Well, you qualify spades down as most clueless of any. What a ridiculous analogy of Reagan to Bush policy for you to make. Reagan's way of dealing w/immigration was amnesty, you most clueless of dimwits, and since his amnesty, 3 million illegals has grown to 12 million plus. Geez, if Reagan's amnesty program isn't a perfect illustration of the total failure that amnesty turned into, then I don't know what is. And you want Bush to repeat Reagan's policy? What planet do you live on.

"Repubs...are perceived to be much stronger on national security"

Imagine the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, Harry Reid, John Kerry, Teddy Kennedy, or Al Gore in charge of national security.

Every time these goons raise their ugly heads, the American people resolve to vote Republican.

I hear that often. That is that this is a smoke screen and nothing will happen. Well if the House is so fired up over the House bill they can make sure something happens. For instance often the reason nothing happens is there is no money appropriated for it or not nearly enough. If the House Republicans wanted to make sure that a smoke screen border security bill didn't get through as a part of a comprehensive bill they can do it.

Few pay more attention than I do, and I reject outright that their plans are the same. In fact I've heard every major GOP player say that they don't support amnesty.

Why exactly do you think Sam Brownback, for example, supports some sort of compromise ?

I'm all for fixing it in a rational way, but obviously we must be doing something right or we wouldn't be sitting here almost 5 years later without an attack

Just because you havent been robbed yet doesnt mean you should leave the house unlocked
