Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

"Like the ports issue, this is right now a strictly Liberal and Liberal Media-generated tempest to divide conservatives in time for the 2006 elections."

I can't believe you, or anyone for that matter, could really believe this.
Our Country is being invaded by illegal aliens. Did you somehow miss the huge demonstrations?
Our prisons are full of illegal aliens. Many of our hospitals have closed because of the strain caused by illegal aliens. Many schools are totally dysfunctional because of the strain of trying to teach spanish speaking illegal aliens. Violent gangs and drug dealers daily stream across our southern border. Wages are depressed. Tax money is spent on illegal aliens instead of U.S. citizens.

And you call all this a liberal media generated tempest?

You are dangerous!

My point is......well the alternative isn't good.

Fear isn't going to be a good enough reason for people to vote this time. The GOP better produce some red meat for the base by November or else they could end up dead meat.

LOL...you haven't been here long; you should have seen the threads here in 2000.

OTOH, you are correct about the rest of it; sadly.

" The wound is self-inflicted and yet, instead of tending to it, the geniuses in the party leadership keep picking at it..."

Yeah, I wonder how and where that disconnect happens.

So what's the threshold? By that standard, is a lifetime ACU rating of 100 a reliable indicator?

Flaglady, it's the MEDIA picking and choosing what you hear from "turncoat Senate Pubs, some Reps, and Prez Jorge Bush" that is stirring you up.

You're falling for soundbites from interviews 50 times as long. That's EXACTLY what the liberal media wants you to do.

"To me this thread hijacking is getting old. Yes we have a border problem ok, but HELLO THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES BESIDES THE BORDERS!!!!!"

Not at the moment there aren't. Why do you think this thread is titled Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November. Now what major issue would make Pubs throw a major tantrum, pray tell? That's right, it's immigration policy. How bright of you to figure that out.

Republicans in Congress have shown they do not deserve to be in charge. Better to be the vocal minority, than the lazy inept majority. Bush and current Congress have been a disaster for Conservatives.

I doubt he'd accept amnesty. But I bet the felony status would be compromised if enforcement was mandatory.

Four? And where did you come up with this gem of an idea? Is this some new discovery in topological geometry? Why not 360 borders, one for each point of the compass?

Last time I looked you had a continuous border running around the entire lower 48.

Prokopton : One who has become aware that he is ignorant and of his need to pursue virtue is making progress (prokopton). A Prokopton is a student, a seeker of truth.

Keep seeking. And don't be so gullible for what the Liberal Media wants you to think. Especially close to an election.

I dont remember FR having this many people acting like little children because their version of what needs to be done to solve the illegal problem isnt done today or tomorrow.

People get fired up about an issue that means something to them and you call them "children"?

And people wonder why the GOP's in bad shape.

People are p!ssed off about illegal immigration and aren't stupid enough to be placated by "guest worker" plans. The GOP has a chance to do something about it. If they fail, woe betide us. But I won't blame the voters. I'll blame the politicians.

But I do support a Dem takeover of the House in November, but not the Senate. Look, the GOP needs to take a big hit, reorganize, and become more conservative.

Go for it. Vote democratic. But don't bother coming back to the republican party. How does the saying go ? With friends like you...

Earth to you......we are in a battle for civilization against Islamic Fundamentalism. Piling on this president at this time is inexcusable.

HOW HYSTERICAL! Hey....you might want to check our open borders to see if any islamic terrorists are walking across OUR UNPROTECTED BORDERS!

Yes, This is a team effort. When will the republican leadership come back to their base?

I can't answer that question, I wish they would but the alternative will be a disaster. The illegal thing is a huge problem, but it can be worked on as we go on down the road. We can't put off our military and our Fed Court system, it's too important and we could lose too many of the gains we've made.

Jeez, I've been gone for awhile. I don't even recognize FR anymore

It's not just FR... the sentiment's the same in all newsgroups and discussion boards... USENET's Political Groups,Google Politics, alt.rush-limbaugh, Yahoo Messageboards...even the regional political boards...Freerepublic does NOT have a monopoly on this sentiment.

I do agree with your concerns, but at the same time, I'm just so angry that I'm not sure I can force myself to vote for another 15 million amnesty and another 10 trillion in debt.

Listen, I didn't mean to offend you, but Id like to see more action from people and less criticismLets show our polititians how to lead without the politics of destruction.

I apologize for the offhand comment.

We can make a difference by shaming "our" politicians into action and not being reactionists that hand power to the Dems

People get fired up about an issue that means something to them and you call them "children"?

What makes people childish in this way is if their analysis of the issue is not practical. I've seen some Freepers insist that all the borders must be closed, for example. This is strange, since no major player on the political landscape wants to close immigration entirely (which is what 'close the border' means).

Those people ARE childish - they have an extreme position on one narrow topic that isn't shared by a wide majority of people. Their fixation with that issue, to the expense of other issues, is indeed childish. They can't get what they want, and won't get what they want.
