Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

In Bush's defense he has always been quite up front about his immigration views. He never did hide it. Bush might have a view many conservatives don't like but its one thats been consistent. What he is saying now sounds no different from any other time. I think what perplexes people is that I don't think people realize that Bush also sees a moral component to this whole debate. That is one reason why he has been viewed as intractable to some. Now it might be the a moral view many disagree with but I think its clear we don't have a poll driven President.

I don't expect them to make me 100% happy. I would just like them to implement strong border security

Just like Rush Limbaugh said, without a border you're NOT a country.

As I asked another poster here, how will me not voting for him because he supports what I want done on illegal immigration matter in the overall election. Also, the majority of the opposition party are proponents of everything that I stand against in terms of illegal immigrants, and doesnt not voting for my rep or senator send the wrong message? Just a question..:)

Let me get this straight. On one side your GOP guy doesnt support your immigration desire. On the other side is the Demo who also doesnt support your immigration desire. So you just vote for the status quo?

Your like a woman in a abusive relationship that gets beaten by her hubby and apologizes for getting in the way of his fists.

I dont remember this being a major issue in 2000, 2002 or 2004 as it is now.

I am glad its being addressed now, but isnt it always the issue that only when a problem gets to the point of being practially unsolvable that it gets to everyone's attention.

The GWOT was one such thing where we had to get attacked in 2001 for us to get aggressive. Imagine if we had attacked even Afghanistan before 9/11 even though we had been attacked by Al Qaeda before but not directly in our homeland.

So looks like things have to reach a boiling point before the elected representatives do anything.

Some of the things you complain about are the results of just a few Senators. Often moderate Republicans that lets face it have moderate Districts. THe oil drilling in Alaska is a prime example.

Okay, here is my position then in regards to your question.

Except for a couple such as Sessions I don't really give a damn what happens to the U.S. Senate. IMO, there are only about nine useful bodies in that building. And I'm drawing on the Senators that had the courage to vote against McCain's terrorist legislation to clarify who they are.

I won't tell anyone not to vote for them, unless you have DeWine or Chafee. Then I freely say drop them over the cliff. But I'm not lifting a finger to support them or the national party. Not in financial contributions, not in vocal support, not in communication with friends in their states. They are on their own.

I AM making an exception for Steele, Erlich and Blackwell. But they are it.

It's not just about one vote you understand. When people state they won't vote, especially here, they are typically activists. That means the GOP is likely to lose donations for their candidates, foot soldiers walking precincts, cutting down MSM propaganda and encouragement to their friends across states to support the party. It can and would hurt to lose anyone who contributes in this manner.

In this same fashion I am not volunteering to help our challenger to the incumbent Dem Senator in my state. Not that it would probably do much good, given how they stole the Governor's mansion....

As for the House, your representative, if they adequately represent you, then you should vote for them. It's the ethical thing to do. As for me, my discontent with my representative actually goes back to ANWR... and the way they handled Dubai...which the majority of the country supported their handling of Dubai...and I did not support the way it was handled. I have some character issues with my rep as a result but that's another issue.

I'm not closeminded though. I'll re-evaluate my position based on action that answers at least some complaints, IF that action really occurs, but I will not reward people for spending years distancing themselves from conservatives and because I fear the alternative. It's up to the Republicans how this turns out.

Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

I can pretty much assure you that if the Dems take control, they are going to teach us all a lesson!!

"There is no difference between the parties, they govern identically."

Bush likely will bring in another conservative justice before he leaves, tipping the court against Roe. That is big. That is one difference between the parties. I'll stay with the GOP for that reason alone, although I don't like the border mess or pork mess.

And everyone forgets abou the humming economy with tax cuts thanks to W. If gas prices were low W's rating would be around 48.

I often wonder who the politicians in DC represent.

They represent the dog. You represent the tail. Guess what, the dog wins. If your views were the majority, you would get your views.

Jeez, I've been gone for awhile. I don't even recognize FR anymore.

Our boys are in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran's breathing down our neck with nukes, the democrats want to start an impeachment process against our Commander-In-Chief, and all some of you can do is whine about YOUR needs not being met.

Talk about piling on. I'm nauseated.

"I certainly hope that no one here is proposing to not vote for _ANY_ Republican, just because of what the party leaders are doing."

No, but I for one don't vote for someone just because he/she is Republican. When I lived in Penna I refused to vote for Specter. When I lived in Minnesota I voted for Coleman but if I lived there now there would be no way he would get my vote after his crap with ANWR. I voted for my Minnesota DFL Congressman Collin Peterson as he was more conservative then any of my other choices.

I'm sick and tired of many of the Republicans like Snow, McCain, Specter, etc watering down the Party. I'm sick and tired of the Republicans worrying about their image in the Media. Grow some balls and pass needed legislation. Stop the illegals. Put up a fence, deport them, fine the employers. If you meet them at the border with rifles raised, I bet they'll turn around real quick. CUT The budget!! They cut a small fraction of the growth of the budget and claim a monstrous victory! It's sad. Don't worry about the next election; when you have a majority in the House, Senate, the Supreme Court, and the EO use it!

If another candidate covers more of my ideas and positions, they get my support. So far I've always voted Republican for President, but times may change. I've always thrown some votes to the Constitutional and/or Libertarian Candidates, whether it was a vote for a Congressman (when I knew the Republican would win) or a Attorney General, or other position. But now I need to realistically consider giving more support to third parties.

Maybe if people here cared for the health of the Country as much as they do about the price of Gas we would be in a much better situation.

My representative DOES support my views on illegal immigration that are probably in tune with what you believe (enforcement against employers, fence, practical solution to deportation etc...)but I am not going to vote for him to teach a few senators (RINOS) that dont agree with what I believe?

Doesnt make any sense.

Your attitude perfectly expresses why I am so disgusted with the GOP.

I have witnessed mass migration transform California into an alien land where even the common language is largely gone. And your attitude is "it's a ridiculous issue".

If you have no love for your own country and its native culture, then I suppose to you it is ridiculous.

While most Republican senators stink on Immigration, just imagine what the 'Rats will do if they get in power

Exactly, they will continue where Specter left off laying the groundwork for impeachment

And they will pass a large, pro immigrant bill giving illegals the right to vote, welfare, amnesty, instant citizenship, and immigration corridors.
