For the month of April 2006 the Federal Government took in $315 billion and had a surplus of $118 billion. That $315 billion sets a record for monthly receipts. And the previous record surplus (years 1981 - 2006) was $189 billion under President Bush in April of 2001.

>>>>It's plenty positive. Increased revenues are always positive.
Now lets see your explanation.
I understand your point though.
Oh, fiscal conservatives bitch constantly?
Reagan wasn't a spendthrift and granted amnesty, why is he your hero again?
Only if we let it. I don't plan on letting that happen. Perhaps I'll follow their little lead and ping some like-minded friends.
And I yours...take care.
In percentage terms? And even were that so Bush has, as Lady Thatcher pointed out, something Reagan never had - Ronald Reagan's example. The Democrats still put up a hellacious fuss over tax cuts, they did the same in the 1980s. But nowadays it doesn't take much courage for a Republican to say that high tax rates are stupid.
The legitimate purpose of taxation is to control inflation by taking out of the economy about as many dollars as government spending puts in. Reagan could appeal to the Kennedy tax cut experience, but he had to go on faith that taking the rate lower would pay for itself. After Clinton raised tax rates, Bush had Reagan's example of what to expect revenue to do when he recinded those increases.
And opposition to doing so forces Democrats to admit that they want tax rates to hurt
the richthe economy. Because that is power, and Democrats are about power. Kissenger said that "Power is an aphrodesiac." Power seems to have an effect similar to what Bill Cosby said about cocaine. He said he asked someone what drew him to use cocaine and was told, "It intensifies your personality." Cosby said his response was "Yeah but what if you are an A$$hole?" (My appologies, but it simply cannot be boldlerized).
I guess Pat Buchanan does have an effect on people
Reagan signed into law tax increases, amnesty for illegals, and supported the Brady bill.
If Bush is not a conservative neither was Reagan. Get your facts straight.
I am not upset all of the time. However, when we are on threads about spending (which is my big pet peeve) I get upset. And lately with the immigration thing.
The things that make me happy about the GOP being in charge are the judges, many social issues, etc...and if we are on a thread talking abou that, you will find me praising the GOP.
And signed the treaty that banned Freon.
Please know that I never pinged anyone to this thread as I never need back-up. I don't care if I am the only person on a thread with a differing viewpoint. Each person is allowed to have their own opinion and I respect yours.
I wonder that too
"Do you allow YOUR media to do your thinking!"
Nope. Nor do I let them do my tax planning each year, either. So, enjoy the surplus, because not one dime of it came from my household. :)
Thwarting the Tax Man is my hobby. I'd be glad to contribute more to the kitty if my Congress spent, saved and invested as wisely as I do. Until then, there are plenty of ignorant (not stupid, ignorant) people out there willing to give government their money. I'm just not one of them. ;)
LOL "IF there are tax cut extensions...I'll really be pissed off. Please, please don't give me tax cuts," saith B'rer Rabbit.
You're right. I didn't mean to imply that you personally pinged others to here. Some do that as a rule.
Good for you!!!!
The answer for most people is yes. We see evidence of that here on FR daily.
Do you want to buy a bridge?
Did you read the column headers correctly??? Deficit/Surplus (-)
A SURPLUS IS PRECEDED WITH A NEGATIVE SIGN!
Add up the columns using a spreadsheet and you will find out you are reading it wrong. We just suffered a $119 billion DEFECIT!!!
Good one!
Now you went and did it! The IRS has your IP address and is headed your way in a dark sedan as I type this!!
