Fed Govt: $118 Billion Surplus for April 2006
U.S. Treasury Dept ^ | May 11, 2006 | avacodo

Posted on 05/11/2006 2:02:16 PM PDT by avacado

For the month of April 2006 the Federal Government took in $315 billion and had a surplus of $118 billion. That $315 billion sets a record for monthly receipts. And the previous record surplus (years 1981 - 2006) was $189 billion under President Bush in April of 2001.

Yes, I do. Especially when it is my money.

Just don't complain when the Democrats (if they ever are)are back in charge and spending even worse than the Republicans, if that is possible.

BTW...I guess you don't read the Pork Book that is put out every year. Maybe you should check it out.

--- Free Republic is opposed to big government. Conservatives support more limited government, reduced taxes and serious reductions in funding the liberal social welfare state. There is nothing positive about a surplus of $118 billion.---

It's plenty positive. Increased revenues are always positive. Can you explain your statement?

I don't have time to get "upset" at every project the Gov. is financing...do you?

I don't have time for every one either - besides I doubt it's humanly possible to know how many foolish projects are being financed. That's why I'm just upset in general at the fact that big government wastes my tax dollars.

True, you can complain whenever you want.

But I am sure that in the future I will never see you complaining about wasteful spending.

What's better then Reagan?

On spending Bush is the biggest spender in US history and has imposed higher taxes on the American worker then Reagan. Reagan reduced federal income taxes from 70% down to 28%. Federal tax rates under Bush have topped out at 35%.

Bush has proposed spending 66.1% of the 2007 budget on social welfare and entitlement programs. In 1987, Reagan spent 50% on the same, and 28.1% on national defense. In the 2007 budget, Bush proposes spending 16.9% on national defense.

Get your facts straight. Bush is no conservative.

I'm sure that was your unique way of saying "Thank you, President Bush and the GOP, for getting our tax cuts through."

>>>>Good luck with your attitude.

Spoken like a good big government Republican, aka. liberal Republican.

My attitude is that of a fiscal conservative. The AMT is out of control and is now effecting millions of middle class working families that it was never intended to effect.

the Federal Government... had a surplus of $118 billion.

Cool. The can certainly afford to send me $1 million, considering.

"Increased revenues are always positive"

Not to those they are taken from, they aren't.

The real news that actually is good, is that the overall economy expanded at almost a 10% annual rate (nominal) in the first quarter, from high consumer spending, higher business spending, record corporate profits, etc. The bad news is, some of that is clearly just inflation, as the currency is sliding and gold is skyrocketing.

There's no such thing as a "surplus." The word is used to justify further extraneous spending by governmental pigs.

I am all for tax cuts, the less money they have up there, the less they can spend. However, the spending up there is atrocious and something every Republican should be ashamed of.

Also, I wish they would cut the payroll tax, ss tax and medicare tax, that would really help out us middle-income people. Wonder if they will do that?

My life is great, really can't complain as I am very blessed.

I know that I am very fortunate. I thank God everyday for that.

Of course there is. It says right here - surplus. It's the opposite of deficit.

So let's see. I could be pissed off when we run a deficit, pissed off when we run a surplus, and if the budget is perfectly balanced I could be pissed off at the oppressive tax system from Da Man!

Or I could have a life and put things in perspective. Hmmmm... decisions... decisions...

I could also be extremely upset that the Senate is set to approve about $70 billion worth of tax cut extensions. It could be on the President's desk tomorrow. Man, that really pisses me off!!

:-p

Amazing. Good news in the middle of a war and it turns into a Bush-bash.

I completely agree with both statements. I just see no need to be upset all the time. There are also plenty of things that make me happy the GOP is in charge.
