Hard Core Republicans Are Fleeing President
The Washington Post ^ | May 11, 2006 | JIm VandeHei and Peter Baker

Posted on 05/10/2006 7:15:13 PM PDT by Dems_R_Losers

Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data.

Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the conservative coalition over the past year, a trend that has accelerated with alarming implications for Bush's governing strategy.

The Gallup polling organization recorded a 13-percentage-point drop in Republican support for Bush in the past couple weeks. These usually reliable voters are telling pollsters and lawmakers they are fed up with what they see as out-of-control spending by Washington and an abandonment of core conservative principles more generally.

There are also significant pockets of conservatives turning on Bush and Congress over the their failure to tighten immigration laws, restrict gay marriage and to put an end to the Iraq war and the rash of political scandals, according to lawmakers and pollsters.

Bush won two presidential elections by pursuing a political and governing model that was predicated on winning and sustaining the loyal backing of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives. The strategy was based on the belief that conservatives, who are often more politically active than the general public, could be inspired to vote in larger numbers and would serve as a reliable foundation for his presidency. The theory, as explained by Bush strategists, is that the president would enjoy a floor below which his support would never fall.

It is now apparent that this floor has weakened dramatically and collapsed in places.

"Dees didn't write that article; and Simcox didn't SUE anybody for what they wrote."

Dees certainly didn't disapprove. And, is not suing now taken as de jure evidence of guilt? And, could you please post any source other than SPLC, regarding Simcox that you're referencing?

I'm not sure I posted "hate-Connie" posts, as you described them, on this thread

What an interesting escape clause.

Howlin: "she's for sale to the highest bidder"

Howlin: "Well, she certainly has a place to rest those lips, doesn't she?"

Yeah, the atmosphere ebbs and flows, illegal immigration just happens to be yet another and the latest hot button topic ala Terri Schiavo. Everyone see's the same thing differently ala "Clinton impeachment". It makes it more interesting to agree to disagree.

I will concede in using such strong language regarding "logic" in ascending Algore to the presidency. I just happend to think Conservatism wouldn't be advanced by putting in someone equally reprehensible in control of the White House.

Dees didn't write that article...
I KNEW you were going to say that.
Now, answer this...as the HMIC (head man in charge) do you think Dees authorized and/or endorsed this "project" or did he let the reporters free float this one?
...and Simcox didn't SUE anybody for what they wrote.
Bzzzzt...Simcox hasn't sued anybody yet for what they wrote. He may never do so. Lots of folks never have and never do. They simply let dogs lie where they will.

That had nothing to do with Connie Hair.

So, the only source for the charge, to your knowledge, is the Republican-hating SPLC? And you've found this credible enough to begin attacking the leadership of the Minutemen, despite appearing to be a supporter just this afternoon?

Do you realize how twisted all this sounds, Howlin?

Nice try though!

I'm disappointed in you tonight, M. It took you a whole 45 minutes to do what you wanted to do when you got here.

Somebody just won $25 though!

Is it as twisted as having a child molester WHO HAS NOT DENIED IT as a leader of your group?

I agree, but we elected him and we expect him to lead this country on a host of issues instead of sulking in the WH because his party doesn't agree with him because he isn't living up to what is expected of Republicans in positions of authority and the opportunity to lead. That opportunity shrinks with each passing day. Bush is almost in freefall, and he's taking the entire party down with him.

If Bush had started the wall, or put the NG on the border while beefing up the BP staff and tools, we'd be in shape by now for him to have his guest worker program while deporting illegals by attrition as they are discovered. Then there's the feel-good spending and the poor leadership on energy. He should have been out on the stump every week or two talking to (educating) the idiots about the dangers in the ME, energy vs. envirowhackos and the costly mistakes they have wrought, and how best to solve immigration in view of necessary national security measures, with business needs a close secondary concern.

The silence is deafening.

No Republican politian should be surprised when Republican turnout is a bust. I'll be voting Republican, but I may be a lonely Republican voter. Most see little to hother to vote FOR.

I am disgusted with the lack of political skill this party demonstrates day-in and day-out while the Dems clean our clocks with their lies and distortions. The only way to handle the media whoring for the Dems is to engage them and outshout them, not cower.

I am just completely disgusted with these eunuchs we've elected. Gutless idiots.

I don't have to BELIEVE either one of them.
And yet, miraculously, you're believing one over the other right now.
Well, not exactly 'cause, as you noted, Dees didn't write the article himself. (a real niggling point there...)
A blast from the past...The Church of Morris Dees

FYI: The majority of the illegal aliens have ID. It's very simple to acquire when your told by Presidente Fox where to get it from. It's their legal status they're not allowed to ask about.

"You keep an extra police officer stashed in the closet, just in case?"

And just what was that smarmy statement supposed to mean?

Keep having your wet dreams of of a Perot comeback. It's not going to happen. Where's a 3rd party candidate elected anywhere (besides Jumpin' Jeffords who wasn't elected Ind.)? The DUmocrats are losing their base while Republicans are growing in support. Hard to take, isn't it?

Really looks like a 3rd party sweep to me....NOT! ROFL! Hey, you could always vote Buchannan! HAHAHA!
