How much do you think Osama bin Laden would pay to know exactly when and where the President was traveling, and who was with him? Turns out, he wouldn't have had to pay a dime. All he had to do was go through the trash early Tuesday morning.
It appears to be a White House staff schedule for the President's trip to Florida Tuesday. And a sanitation worker was alarmed to find in the trash long hours before Mr. Bush left for his trip.
It's the kind of thing you would expect would be shredded or burned, not thrown in the garbage. Randy Hopkins could not believe what he was seeing.
There on the floor next to a big trash truck was a thick sheaf of papers with nearly every detail of the President's voyage.
"I saw locations and names and places where the President was going to be. I knew it was important. And it shouldn't have been in a trash hole like this," he said.
Hopkins works in sanitation. He's an ex-con, and he's worried

I would have just stuck it in a drawer for the grandkid's grandkids.
The good thing about this story is that it shows that an ex-con can reform and become a responsible citizen.
Somebody's job in the WH just bought the farm, so to speak.
Um...let's just hope that this boo-boo can't be traced to our beloved Tony Snow! Maybe McClellan's sabotaging him on the way out the door? ;)
Thank God this guy didn`t work for the New York Slimes...It would have been on the headlines and translated into Arabic.
This is NOT funny, people. It is unbelievable incompetence.
Oops. I wonder who's in bigger trouble, Sandy Burglar or his operative inside the White House.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see who shows up dead in Ft. Marcy Park.
Hopkin's is a good man!
Assuming that is the case, it shouldn't be long until the careless recipient is identified, and he'll be a careless recipient no more.
Back when I was offshore one of the first things I noticed is that the skipper "sees no evil". If they see or hear you coming, it's like the perfect crew having a perfect day in "Smurf-Land".
The only way around it is to set a trap or two. It ain't easy...they have their own "radar" and they always know where you are.
I do not believe that real records of the indicated types legitimately ended up in the trash without being shredded.
My guess would be that either (1) someone illegitimately placed the real records there, perhaps for pickup by someone, or (2) the government placed falsified records there, in the hopes of having someone pick them up, or (3) the government placed falsified records somewhere, in the hopes that someone would pick them up, and that person placed them in the trash.
Anything else would seem to require not only incompetance but also going against SOP.
That's what I was thinking. I mean, the thing was just laying there, not even in a bin. Also, throwing intenerary out BEFORE the trip seems a bit odd.
Things are not always as they seem. : )
It would be wise to quit getting our information, and our point of view, from the "mainstream" or "drive-by" media.
that's a plausible - and frightening - scenario.
If so, thank GOD, an honest person happened upon them before the pickup.
"W's" enemies never sleep. He has the threat of death over his head every day. I wonder how many of us appreciate that fact.
I, for one, wonder how he can remain so calm - he has so many enemies: Foreign, domestic "etc" - "and you KNOW what I mean"
I bet it was a former Clinton staffer that still works in the White House. He may have also been attempting to pass the schedule to terrorists.
Well, whatd'ya expect? Clinton prolly wore out every shredder in the WH, and this crowd just hasn't gotten around to buying some more.
Anything is possible. I can see those who want the downfall of the President doing just about anything.
I would have just stuck it in a drawer for the grandkid's grandkids.
me too....it's sounds like it would have been safer there!
Apparently the White House has the same crack squad working on the President's daily itinerary as are working on national/border security.
