Federal Judge Resigns to Work for Boeing
By LARRY O'DELL, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago
Judge J. Michael Luttig has resigned from the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to accept a job as senior vice president and general counsel for Boeing Co., the company said Wednesday.
Luttig, 51, a conservative judge, had been mentioned last year as a possible nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
He was appointed to the 4th Circuit by former President Bush in 1991

I should have those problems.
Going for the real $$$$
Good for him. Judges don't make squat anyway.
He could still be nominated to the SC. But it doesn't look like he wants to make a govt. salary anymore.
What a great judge- what a great justice he would have made (well, he still could).
I hope he makes more money than he can count, he's done the Fourth Circuit proud.
Saw the writing on the walls that he would not be a SCOTUS nominee while Bush 43 is in office. Might as well take the big money / perks from Boeing.
Good for him.. Take the money and prosper.
Resume building. Didn't the Liberals recently say they wanted a SC Justice with "real world experience?"
Too bad. But you have to be really dedicated and idealistic to be a conservative judge these days. Nothing but political abuse, bad press, and weak support from the Republicans who should be supporting them.
He didn't get the SCOTUS nod, and it seems like he doesn't think there will be another shot for it.
Can't say I blame the man.
Well, imo, this proves he didn't deserve the Supreme Court appointment.
And I'm glad more than ever he didn't receive it.
Yes, I think it's fair to state this is in reaction to an understanding he wouldn't be appointed by this administration. But he quits at a timing when it is next to impossible to get RINO's to move swiftly on confirmation in the Senate, at a time with activist judges are overstepping their bounds.
He's more than free to leave and pursue a job that makes money. I wish him well on that. One I preseume he expect to enjoy. But it's evident in this action that he lacked the committment we need from a Republican nominee to the Supreme Court.
Why? This is resume enhancement, and a stop to resume degradation. The more court cases he judges the more enemies he makes. He has already "been there, done that" as a federal judge. He is never gonna be more qualified no matter how long he's on the bench.
No, this is not resume enhancement.
It's a silent acknowledgement he won't receive from this administration the Supreme Court appointment he had hoped for. It is unlikely a future administration will consider him for an appointment unless, perhaps, Allen won the nomination and the presidency. Except Allen has clearly demonstrated his interests reside towards the Judge from Lind's state (Karen Williams). He seems to have the same mindset as many in Washington that at least two women should be on the Court.
Luttig can read the signs. This administration has passed on him twice, and the rest of Washington seems to be enamored with someone of the opposite sex being appointed next. By the time the political correct mindset offer a male may next be appointed, Luttig's age will be a factor. Youth is critical in our appointments. If he was going to be appointed it would have happened with the second opening.
Given this reality he has chosen a different line of work. Which is fine, he should do what's best for him. But clearly his committment is not as strong to holding the line against Liberal activist judges/Dems/RINO's as a Supreme Court nominee's should be. If it was, he would have stayed in this position.
It's a good thing Luttig was not nominated to the Supreme Court. You have to have something more than expectations of a high salary to be a good SC Justice. That's why the American people should feel blessed that we have four good conservative judges on the Court who pride themselves on their judicial philosophy rather than making a lot of money.
A state district court judge is being nominated to the federal district bench. But even a nomination is no guarantee that she will ever sit as a federal judge.
Welcome to Free Republic!
Plus, I do not think that Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito would like to be considered Republican nominees to the SCOTUS.
