The mass re-enlistment of 640 GIs of the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment is considered invaluable to the Army's future.
A year ago, as Iraqi fighters detonated a bomb that shattered his convoy, Army Sgt. Gene Braxton led survivors scrambling out of their Humvees in the hot dusty haze to hunt for the triggermen.
Five months later, a bigger roadside bomb rocked the armored vehicle Braxton was in. Reeling from a concussion, he dragged a wounded buddy to safety.
Back in Colorado, Braxton has re-enlisted and will undergo parachute jump training in preparation for a possible third stint of combat duty in Iraq.

My thanks to your loved ones for their service.
Once again, American soldiers step up to do the most important job on Earth- turning live terrorists into dead terrorists!
These are MEN. God bless 'em, one and all!
looks like a good place for A PRESIDENTIAL VISIT.
maybe if the CINC was there for the swearing in the MSM might have to report it.
Tony - are you reading this.

This makes me even prouder to be an American!
These guys/gals are my heroes!

To the defenders of freedom and this nation. May God be with you.
Jumped on late but glad you made the post. 249 replies so far, and most of them very positive.
The pictures in here are nice also.
Thanks again
"It's indeed a sad day when incredible news like this bores the living H*** out of a conservative forum"
In my opinion, the fun thing about this site is debate and controversy. There is no controversy here. 99% of Freepers agree this is good news, so what we get is 200 posts of "go Army" "God Bless the Troops" - Nice sentiments yes, but I don't need to read them 200 times.
By the way, I'm in iraq right now, deployed with a National Guard unit, and our re-enlistment rates are solid too.
On this topic suffice it to say that we'll have to disagree. This is a long-running occurrence that goes far beyond this thread. There never seems to be a problem with getting 5,000 views on a gossip thread or 8,500 posts on an American Idol thread.
Stay focused and stay safe. God bless!
Another bump for our heroes
That photo of the family unit of Marine Capt. Eric Thompson is just about the most gorgeous picture I have seen in years. It really reminds me of what freedom means and why we fight for it. I actually got teared up over it, and that was a surprise to me, an American male who is over 55.
Thank you Straight Vermonter!!!!
I would have loved to have been there for that ceremony! It's funny that I read about this first on Free Republic- what a great forum for news.
The media pollsters and Democrats would have us believe that Americans don't support the war on terror. Yet we have an all volunteer military defending freedom. These volunteers come from many different economic, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds. They are a reflection of what most of us really think. They are the heart and soul of America.
Post again when not M-Day and everyone is hanging with family.
It wasn't posted on Mother's Day. That doesn't make a difference anyway.
