Party endorses lawmaker receiving drug treatment after Capitol crash

WEST WARWICK, R.I. - Democrats endorsed an absent Rep. Patrick Kennedy, being treated for addiction to prescription pain drugs, for re-election Monday night at their state convention.
Kennedy checked into the Mayo Clinic on Friday for his second stay in less than five months after a middle-of-the-night car crash near the Capitol on Thursday that he said he couldnt remember. It was his second car crash in three weeks.
Republicans have said Kennedy should step aside because he cant fulfill his duties. But Democratic leaders said Monday night that he has done a good job and deserves support in his battle with addiction.

'The rules are - and always have been - different for the Kennedy family'.
The rules are - and always have been - different for the Democrats.
Rhode Island's 1st District was ably represented by Ron Machtley (Republican, 1970 Naval Academy Grad) from 89-95. At a quick glance, he voted with Republicans more than 80% of the time.
He left Congress thinking he could successfully run for governor.
He didn't and "Patches" took his seat.
What I'd like to see if there is no opposition is people not voting for that office at all. Something that says we won't take more of the same. The last election I voted in had the corrupt and more RINO everyday Joe Bruno unopposed for state senate. Not that I would have voted for a RAT, but with no one else, not a conservative, independent, whig, bull moose to even cast a protest vote, I simply didn't vote in that race. Somewhere in my idealistic mind is the thought that when a candidate's total number of votes is less (and hopefully far less) than the total number of votes cast, someone might notice. I'd like to see the RAT voters do the same in RI.
The Democrat Party is about lying and deceit. Let's put this way Patrick Kennedy just passed another test last week to prove that when it comes to lying and deceit, the Kennedys have few equals.
Talk about your "Culture of Corruption!"
right...I forgot the sarcasm tag....
I certainly expect the race to kick up a notch as a result of Patrick's antics, including fundraising. There is at least one guy stepping in on the GOP side, though he hasn't announced yet.
So far this year, RI Republicans have been spending their energies having food fights over the Senate race. Lincoln Chafee, the INOiest RINO in the Senate, is facing opposition in the primaries, and the GOP has (inexcusably) run attack ads on his Republican challenger. So little capital to spend here, and they choose to weewee it away on internecine fights propping up dreadful candidates.
The Stupid Party, indeed.
Seeking treatment, or in treatment?
It is certainly bad enough that he would drive in that condition but why is no one interested in how often he VOTED while under the influence?
Must be a typo. SHOULD read: "We treat Republicans and Democrats very different in this country."
Too bad for his political career Patrick didn't run over and kill someone. He'd be certain of job security for life.
