I still my 'Jimmie Bear' from when I was only two (I'm sixty so he's sixty one). He went with me into the hospital on several occasions in my childhood (had polio in '47) and even went to surgery a couple of times after my Mother sterilized him in a brown bag in the oven! My first wife composed a beautiful 'autobiography' of Jim E. Bear many Christmases ago ... it's a dear thing to me. Jim has presided over many Christmas Trees, with seated guest secret bears and other assorted friends. I wrote my first two novels with Jim presiding over the work on the dining table. He's had several 'surgeries' (thoracic), so his excelsior is quite mussed, but he's still the center of my affections. My two cats aren't allowed around him any more ... they 'loved' on him too much with their cruel claws. [He's a Stieff, BTW, as is one of his companions, a small 'secret bear' who holds many of my childhood secrets for safe keeping.]

How many Teddy Bears do we have??? I don't have any idea!

For instance, when we moved into our present home a few years ago, I made a big mistake and told my wife she could decorate our main bathroom in a Teddy Bear motif. The first clue I was in trouble was the appearance of a sign, in the hall, over the door to the bathroom that says 'I love Teddy Bears.' Inside there are 45 pairs of Teddy eyes watching you do your business. From Teddys painted on our shower curtain, Teddy decals on the walls, Teddy Bear handles on the cabinet doors all the way thru to 'Blossom' our bathroom attendant that holds up a plunger that holds the T.P.

Have you ever tried to do your business with 45 pairs of eyes watching you?

For years, my wife has made and dressed Teddy Bears to give away to family and friends, and sold many of them to others for gifts, etc. She has Teddy Bears all over the world.

A lot of the Bears seem to hang around the house. There is not a flat surface in the house that does not have at least one Teddy Bear on it Since March, 2005 she has dressed over twenty Teddy Bears to ship off to various destinations around the world. Since December of 2005 she has custom made over 14 real fur Teddy Bears using recycled fur coats. Thank you for such a lovely thread. In England a lot of the ice cream vans that go round the streets selling lollies and cornets play the song "Teddy Bear's Picnic".

Mount St. Helens Syndrome

On March 20, 1980, Mount St. Helens in Washington, a supposedly dormant volcano, began to quake and rumble. The local population was evacuated to a “safe” distance 8 miles away. Later, the side of the mountain began to bulge. Scientists were not alarmed because past research of volcanoes indicated that they never blew sideways.

Then on May 18 the side of Mount St. Helens exploded, shooting tons of debris downhill at the speed of 150 miles per hour. A minute later, the volcano exploded upward with the equivalent power of 500 atomic bombs! Two hundred thirty square miles of forest were devastated and 57 people lost their lives. The scientists had assumed that natural events would continue as before. But they were wrong.

The book of 2 Peter tells us of a future time when a similar misplaced confidence will be destroyed by the fiery end of our world (3:4-7). But the good news is that God will build “new heavens and a new earth” (v.13). He is “not willing that any should perish,” and He is patiently waiting so that more people will find true safety in His Son Jesus (v.9). They need only accept the salvation He offers.

I had a Small Black and White Teddy Bear I Loved for Years as a Child, but it Disappeared when I was in my Teens; it may have been with my Other Stuffed Animals in a Bag that Went Missing when my Family and I Moved to a Different House. :(

I still Think of that Bear Periodically, and of a Little Lion that had a Wind-Up Music Box in its Tummy, that Vanished with All my Other Beloved Stuffed Animals. Now-a-Days, I Love Birds a Lot, so I have Little Stuffed Birds Sprinkled Throughout my House and Mobile Home. I have One Adorable Teddy Bear that my Dear Brother and Sister Gave me, that Wears a Little Coat, Like he's Cold All the Time. : )
