If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.
That is the undeniable truth, but scant few here are willing to so acknowledge.
Truer words were never spoken. As you know I've got no love for the wishy-washy right but the stakes have never been higher. It's been said time and time again but the fact is if the Democrats get a foothold they'll break their necks getting impeachment started.
In the middle of a war an elected fifth-column will systematically destroy all the hard work, blood, sweat, and toil that all those brave men and women have shed for nothing more than a brief chance to achieve a pathetic chance at power. And for what?
This is beyond holding your nose and voting; this is a matter of watching the walls from both sides. I thank God that in Maryland there's a candidate like Michael Steele who won't make me go wobbly with my vote.
God help the rest of you. This is it. Gutcheck.
Unlike you, who avoids them.
They are the ugly face of conservatism.
Bless you. Your post is spot on!
"Do you not understand that most of those people on this forum threatening to not vote or to vote third party didn't vote GOP in 2000 or 2004?"
I don't know that, and neither do you. Those demonstrations did a lot of damage, as far as support for the pro-immigration, pro-business wing of the party. I hear it every day. When the choice appears to be voting for more of the same, taking a chance or sitting it out, it looks as if "more of the same" didn't poll very well. Was that poll "FReeped?" I have no doubt it was. I watched the percentages day by day, and there was quite a battle going on with the nonmember votes. Certainly not all of them were cast in categories other than "continue to vote Republican." The discontent is real, in my opinion. Look at the national polls. Not all of them are biased.
The Republican Party nominates candidates who win in primaries. You've heard of the primaries?
thanks for the chuckle - it helped push my BP down a bit!
I think most of the "party hack" type Republicans realize that and are scared by it. It explains some of the viciousness in how they attack the discontented.
**Vote out Rinos, and give any donations to conservative Republican candidates directly.**
Good advice, but where were you at the Party Selection meetings??
Did you stand up in advocacy of the Conservative Candidate in your District? Did you knock on doors before the primary??
Or did you sit back, and suddenly find that the chosen one wasn't to your liking??? Did you run for precinct committeeman, or convention delegate?
My plan is to not work to help RINO Olympia Snowe. She's secure anyways. I am focusing on our governor race. I will be supporting whoever the republican is. Baldacci's destroying the state. Also, there's a female republican running against Tom Allen. I will be supporting her.
Other than that... I can use the time I would have used for Olympia Snowe to help Santorum and Talent and other vulnerable republican candidates.
If the republican seats are secure in your state I recommend others do the same. ADOPT A CANDIDATE. A VULNERABLE REPUBLICAN SEAT IN ANOTHER STATE.
Another thing I plan on doing is posting articles I see here at FR in other newsgroups where everybody is NOT a republican. Sometimes we forget that we are preaching to the choir and we need to go out among the "sinners" and spread the good news of conservatism. So I often combat the liberal moonbats in USENET / GOOGLE POLITICAL NEWSGROUPS
I also recommend joining (for free) this wonderful site called www.gopteamleader.com
You know, I would like to believe that as much as the next person. But the truth is, many of the same people who are frustrated with the President today were frustrated with President Reagan then. And President Reagan won MOSTLY because he was blessed with Jimmy Carter and what's his face Mondale as opponents.
The other side of the coin is that we won congress because people where upset with President Clinton, not because they were so excited about Newt Gingrich. And we lost later because President Clinton was blessed with Bob Dole as an opponent.
The dirty little secret of politics is that you ALWAYS vote for the lesser of two evils. Always. If you are voting FOR someone, you will always be let down, disappointed and disillusioned. It is the nature of politics and frankly was intended to be that way by the founders of this country.
A) Abortions are not committed in bedrooms.
B) The homosexuals have brought their agenda into the public schools and the public square.
I have been here since July of 1998.
I most certainly DO remember who has actively worked against the GOP since that year.
Was that poll "FReeped?"
This poll?

Night all, it's been a pleasure even if I mostly lurked.
I agree, amazing that in the leftwing loony bin otherwise known as the state of Maryland, we have the Man of Steele.
They're not committed in dark alleys either.
Nite you!
