MURDOCH TO HOST FUNDRAISER FOR HILLARY CLINTON

Mon May 08 2006 18:25:16 ET

Rupert Murdoch has agreed to host a political fundraiser for Hillary Clinton this summer!

Murdoch's surprise decision to raise money for Clinton in July, on behalf of NEWS CORP., parent company of FOXNEWS and the NEW YORK POST, underlines a dramatic turn of relations between Murdoch and Clinton, who in 1998 coined the phrase “vast rightwing conspiracy” to denounce critics of her husband.

Some say the move by Murdoch reflects approval of her Senate career. Others note his record for picking future national leaders. Last century, he threw over the British conservatism he'd long supported to back longshot Tony Blair.

Clinton surprised Washington and media watchers recently by attending a FOX NEWS anniversary party, where she toasted Murdoch.

Political powerbroker and studio head Harvey Weinstein is said to have convinced Hillary that Murdoch could be a friend, not a foe, in her ongoing political maneuvers.

Hillary has now cornered the NY media market, by winning support from the NEW YORK TIMES, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS owner Mort Zuckerman -- and now Murdoch and the NY POST.

Now lets think about this for a moment.... Is there more news generated for fox news if there is another conservative in the whitehouse or a scum sucking liberal?

Some say the move by Murdoch reflects approval of her Senate career.

Yes, she has done wonders for the people of the State of New York, and her brilliant, incisive legislative ability has helped foster a cooperative spirit in The Senate which has enabled that august body to work together diligently on issues of vital importance, such as Iraq, Iran, North Korea, energy, and immigration. If we had 99 more like Hillary, we could put the Founding Fathers to shame. </sarcasm>

Probably a good move for Murdoch on a couple of fronts. One, it helps difuse the notion that his media empire is beholden to conservatives, and hopes to increase his audience amongst liberals. And two, who do the Republicans really want as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008? Hilary is their best choice to oppose and help energize their base, so why not help get her in that spot.

Seems to me the super-rich generally hedge their bets and buy influence with both parties, but maybe more with liberal democrats since that's the source of the highest potential for damage to their interests, and an easy way to buy absolution from the media.

When will people learn? Murdoch is an opportunist, not a conservative.

Murdoch is doing what all good business men do. They have the best politicians they can buy.

If the Democrats were to get back in power they would try to use some law like reenacting the so called Fairness Doctrine to control Fox. Murdock is just seeing to it that Hillary owes him big time.

Big corporations with any savy try to buy politicians on both sides of the isle. That way they are not in too bad a shape no matter who wins.

Those that think Murdock is ideological are just not thinking straight. Murdock did fox the way he did because it was a way to achieve financial success. Had he done a CNN clone he would still be trying to make Fox profitable.

Murdock will always do what he thinks is best for his companies.

Look at what Clear Channel is doing. They are the distributors of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck among others. So what did they do, they have been taking a station in nearly every market and putting Air America on it. It does not matter that everyone of the Air America stations are losing money. When the Democrats come to power, they will know that it was clear channel that put Air America on in all the big markets. It is not Clear Channels fault that Air America does not draw an audience.

Clear Channel knows that if the Democrats get in power they will pick on some other big chain owner that is not promoting Air America.

It is called covering your rump for anythink that can happen.

It does not surprise me at all, given his obvious staffing support for man hating feminism, and the fact that he left his last wife for an employee forty years younger than him. He had also divorced a wife before that one for a younger woman.

...true romanticist (literally, if you've studied the history of romanticism).

It might be that he is trying to help her win the Demo nomination because he knows she will get creamed.

Damn, why do I always feel like someone is selling out the things I believe in for a short term gain.

I don't like what he is doing and will damn well send my remarks to Fox.

Over the past year Fox has replaced a lot of it's good reporters with pretty happy faces and the whole cable channel doesn't seem the same as the Fox that caught my attention and loyalty for the last 5 years.
