Along with the lowest overall job approval rating of his presidency, the latest USA Today/Gallup poll gives President George W. Bush record low scores for his handling of a variety of national issues and perceived leadership abilities. Since January, Bush's ratings have fallen most sharply with respect to his handling of energy policy and Iraq.

Free Republic Opinion Poll: A time for choosing: It appears that a significant number of our members are so disgusted with the GOP's failure to secure our borders against illegal aliens that they are willing to risk all by voting them out of office, even if it means Pelosi, Reid, Hillary, et al, are allowed to take charge. Is this the best course of action or should we be working harder than ever to hold the line and actually try to make a difference by getting more constitutionally-minded conservatives elected? Are you willing to give it all up or are you more determined than ever to keep the Marxists out of power?

And I didn't say the majority of Freepers are kooks; I said the majority don't agree with YOU.
I never said that I wanted to turn it over to the Rats. This poll is flawed as it only offers two choices - false ones at that. The choice that many are offering on Free Republic is not to work to get more conservatives elected, but to vote for the Republican candidate no matter what. Voting for a RINO like McCain does not do anything to get more conservatives elected. Yet, we're already being told to shut up and vote for the guy with the (R) next to his name. OF COURSE I'm not saying turn it over to the Rats. I have no idea why you would accuse me of such a thing.
The polls will show this because he "didn't have sex with that woman" and didn't lie in front of the Grand Jury.
Oh, and he isn't a Democrat.
You mean like this guy?
Well, there is the Republican party with some conservative members and some not so conservative and then there's the evil Marxist liberal socialist Democrat Party. I'd rather have a conservative Republican in office, but I'll take a not so conservative Republican over any evil Marxist liberal socialist Democrat any day of the week. And I might express my unhappiness with some of his policies but I think I've learned my lesson about irreversibly trashing the Republican office holder or the Republican base or the party itself (at least not too much trashing). As they say, the alternative is unthinkable.
I take it back about the current poll. I think I get it now. The choices ARE apt. Right now, either you're working to get more conservatives elected by getting the RNC to put up conservatives and for President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress to stop betraying the conservative base so that conservatives won't stay home in the next two elections - or you tell conservatives to shut up and stop complaining, allowing the Republican-controlled Congress and the President to continue screwing the conservatives and therefore the conservatives sit out the next two elections and you then turn it over to the Rats. So, now the poll makes sense to me. I'm for working to get more conservatives elected by trying to convince, as Ken Mehlman spoke about, the Republican-controlled Congress and the President to work harder to please conservatives. Apparently you're for turning it over to the Rats because anyone who stands up and demands that conservative be considered by the Republican-controlled Congress and the President is a kook, a lemming, and someone that you want to shut up.
Checkmate.
You mean like this guy?
To: Carry_OkieAnd then there's Jim Robinson's exclusion for those that are RINO "treasonous bastards":Well, there is the Republican party with some conservative members and some not so conservative and then there's the evil Marxist liberal socialist Democrat Party. John McCain, you treasonous bastard, I challenge you or any of your traitorous cohorts to find even one thread, one post, one paragraph, one sentence or even one lousy word posted to this web site that is not fully protected by the First Amendment! Please note that it was a Republican-controlled Congress that were John McCain's "cohorts" in passing CFR, a Republican President that acted as a "cohort" in that he signed CFR into law, and a Republican nominee dominated Supreme Court that acted as "cohorts" when they upheld CFR. Carry on...And I will extend that to one chapter, one group, one poster or any group of posters on this forum. Name one assembly, petition, letter, protest, meeting or rally convened, filed, submitted, attended or supported by members of this forum that is not 100% protected and guaranteed as free speech or free assembly by the First Amendment!
Your McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform legislation is a treasonous act. You and your cohorts are attempting to subvert the Constitution of the United States of America, the very same constitution that you swore an oath to defend, so help you God! That makes you a domestic enemy of that great document and a traitor to your country. Yes, and Benedict Arnold was a war hero before he turned traitor too.
How dare you even think that you are qualified to sit in the oval office! Ronald Reagan's office! President? Hah! You miserable excuse for a two-bit political hack, you're not even qualified to shine Ronald Reagan's boots. If you do run, I'm afraid you're gonna be at least one vote short. It'll be a cold day in hell before a traitor like you ever receives my vote. And that's a campaign promise you can take to the bank.1 posted on 03/22/2006 8:58:46 PM PST by Jim Robinson
Finally, there's the mission statement of this entire forum. One that DOES NOT include the words "Republican", "Republican Party" or any demand for support of any specific party - just "independent, grassroots" support for conservatism in America.
Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.
It is unfortunate, but the President and the Republican-controlled Congress have done the opposite of relling back decades of governmental largesse. It is embarassing, but this Republican administration and the Republican-controlled Congress have had a little too much political fraud and corruption associated with them - and not, it isn't all just stuff the Democrats and MSM make up. Some of it, sadly, is credible. And it is very much a matter of debate whether the President and the Republican-controlled Congress have done much to further conservatism in America.
I used to believe in our President. I hope he does something soon to restore my faith in him. It is up to him.
Nobody here is supporting McCain; he'll never make it through the primaries.
The point is, Jim is supporting Republicans this year -- not third parties -- and certainly not sitting home.
I suggest that you donate your money to local, conservative, pro-life candidates. If you're looking for one, I can make a suggestion.
Your husband isn't the only one who has grown disappointed in the President. I know MANY conservative Republicans who have had their moment where they just lose faith. It is hard. It is even sad when it happens. That moment may hit you too if you find yourself betrayed one too many times.
But let me tell you, I am a vocal supporter of the President if it is a Democrat attacking him with their stupid barking moonbat crap. When it comes to the War on Terror, I even FReep in support of the President and the troops. But criticism is warranted for a number of things the President has done or has not done. And when I am among fellow conservatives, I do not hesitate to discuss the problems I have with the President.
Just like me. That's why I don't understand all the vitriol you've spent towards me in this thread, Howlin.
That doesn't change the fact that, as RNC Chair Ken Mehlman pointed out, conservatives are upset and likely to sit it out unless there are some real legislative efforts to fix things up between the Republican Party and the conservatives who usually vote for Republicans.
You're shooting the messenger, Howlin. I don't plan to sit anything out. In fact, I'm concerned because the Republican congressional candidate I'm campaigning for may suffer because disenfranchised conservatives may sit home or be less than enthusiastic in November. Again, what I want doesn't mean that I can go into denial and pretend that conservatives aren't pissed off and they won't sit it out or vote third party. And I won't do anyone any favors if I shoot the messengers that are reporting this political reality right now.
So, instead of beating up on complaining conservatives, how about working to understand what they're complaining about and seeing what you can do to get things patched up. RNC Chair Mehlman recognizes the problem and has finally said something about it. It may be too little, too late at this point, but some effort should be made. Beating up on disappointed conservatives isn't helpful at all at this point. Telling them to just shut up and vote isn't either.
That's all you've done since 2000.
How can Bush ever get anything done with you all nipping at his heels 24/7?
The problem here is the "my way or the highway" conservatives who are pushing for only their strident agenda and aren't willing to compromise on anything, therefore they are going to sit home and pout.
Again.
They're willing to put their one issue in front of everything else, just to prove a point.
IMO, too much time has been spent trying to placate a group of people who can never be placated -- and, IMO, don't want to be placated -- they just want an issue.
Some around here just do not seem to understand that there is never going to be mass deportations of illegals. IMO, at least Bush has tried to do SOMETHING about it, even if he gets smacked down at every turn by the unappeasables that want to take over this party.
This country is basically conseravtive, but it is not the "type" of conservatism I see posted on this forum. The extreme right wing of the conservative movement is going to be the end of the GOP's control of the government and all that has been accomplished, granted not as much as we would like, is going to be lost.
Because you better believe that once the Democrats get back in power, the very first thing they are going to do is dismantle the Electoral College and then you and I won't ever have to worry again about getting anybody elected.
You all need to read, comprehend, and take to heart this post by epow; it's one of the best posts posted on this site in year.
It IS the unvarnished truth.
Zounds!! If I'm not mistaken Howlin, this is the first time in my 8 years on FR that I can fully agree with one of your posts. Any conservative who fails to vote or who votes Democrat to allow the Dems to take back Congress in 07 or the White House in 09 deserves what they will get. But the rest of us conservatives won't deserve it.
C'mon people, use your brains instead of your adrenal glands. Have you forgotten the Carter and Clinton White Houses and the almost 40 straight years of Democrat control of Congress that put us in the dangerous mess we are in now? Instead of voting against your Republican Congressman or Senator this fall, why not write or call him/her and express your opinion in re immigration or whatever your hot button issue may be? If every conservative who is unhappy with his or her Republican representation in Congress and Senate were to express that dissatisfaction NOW by a letter or phone call it would do a lot more good than waiting until Nov to express it at the ballot box.
Do any of you actually believe that a Democrat replacement for your unsatisfactory Republican will not be MUCH more unsatisfactory? Do you really believe a Democrat will do more to restrict immigration that a Republican? The Dems are licking their lips in anticipation of garnering millions of new Democrat voters from the ranks of future Hispanic immigrants. Hispanic Americans vote heavily Democrat now in every region except the south FL Cuban community. Hispanics are a major bloc of the Democrat vote base. That bloc is now far larger than the union vote bloc they betray by encouraging immigration, imagine how dominant the Reid/Pelosi Democrats will be if they get control of the immigration process and bring in even more future Democrat voters.
You people think Democrats will do anything to slow down illegal immigration? Dream on folks, they would bring in millions of bird flu infected chickens if they could get away with registering them as Democrat voters. They don't care about the future of America and they don't give a rip about you or your concerns, all that concerns them is their burning lust for regaining power.
Don't kid yourself; it's like spitting in the wind. They are right and we are all wrong.
Ah...how soon Freepers have forgotten the Toon.
Brought to you by the Toon. Grow up.
ON PURPOSE.. Bush could easily raise his ratings(among republican voters).. but won't.. The seeds of revolt by republican voters didn't just happen, it was ON PURPOSE..
Course some think George Bush is Stupid.. I do not.. its ON PURPOSE... Bush knows exactly what hes doing.. Its the republican faithfull that are stuck on stupid.. The Shrub knows exactly what hes doing, its ON PURPOSE.. As did Clinton and operatives at the MENA airport.. You do know the Mexican gov't is not a gov't at all, its a Drug Cartel, you know that right?.. i.e. illegal and legal aliens/mules(democrats)
