So I will give the devil his due, knowing he might be the devil.

I'm glad you realize that possibility ;-) You can tell from my homepage how I feel about McCain. I'm dumbfounded that Hoekstra is so against Hayden. I'm sick of the Presidential backstabbing. For him to have gone on Fox News Sunday and ripped the President's choice is shameful. I realize they don't all need to march in lockstep on many areas, but the GOP is in desperate need of showing some unity and Presidential support.

Hoekstra's argument is flawed and he should have had the common decency to air his concerns privately, giving the administration a chance to explain and make their case before blasting it on national t.v. All Hoekstra did was hand over more ammunition to democrats who are trigger happy enough as it is. I've gotten so disgusted with most politicians lately that its a real gut check for me to have the desire to follow what's going on day to day.

The argument that Hoekstra makes isn't a good one. We haven't been in THIS kind of war...ever. The CIA needs to be primarily keeping track of Al Qaeda and like minded groups as well as the capabilities of the Russians, Chinese, Iranians and North Koreans. All of which present primarily military problems. What am I missing? And was the disagreement SO great that he couldn't have kept if private?

Why should I trust this bozo's opinion over that of the President. I've never heard of this clown, so apparently trying to make a name for himself during an election year.

Okay, who's going to do OVERSIGHT on the congress? They seem to be the ones eager to undermine the country for political gain.

A RINO version of Murtha, who needs it?

Absolutely right. Wasn't there a time when issues were discussed like grownups behind closed doors? I have no problem with this guy being unhappy with this choice, I have a BIG problem with the way he's handling himself.

He's Intelligence Committee Chairman of the House. But these seems personal in defense of Porter Goss (I understand it, but it should've never been this public), and against John Negroponte. Now I'm less enamored of Negroponte (he's a former State department guy), but still there's some sort of personal animus which is hurting the party.

There seems to be an enemy within working against us in CIA and State Dept.

And the enemy consists of disgruntled DUmmies; moles from other powers; and people who actually think Al Qaeda ought to win (or at least that we shouldn't be fighting the "inevitable". These are the same folks who thought we could accomodate to the Soviets.

It's not that I think a host should agree with me all the time. Were that the case I might not have listened to Tony since we didn't necessarily agree on immigration. What I like is a host who has all the facts (at lease most of the time), treats callers with respect, has a sense of humor and it not an arrogant jerk. That's why Tony is the only Fox host I could listen to. O'Reilly, yuck. Gibson, yuck. Judge, yuck. Brian, not too bad. Ailes is no dummy. He understands why Rush is number 1. My question still stands: What the heck was he thinking when he put the judge on this show?

After further review of Gen Hayden's bio..........

The man's spent most of the last 15 years in intelligence, and has to have a Good Ol' Boy network built up that would make some of those CIA analyst/political hacks' eyes get buggy.

MY eyes got a little buggy when I saw: "17. March 1999 - April 2005, Director, National Security Agency, and Chief, Central Security Service, Fort George G. Meade, Md." That's entirely too neatly bracketed around both 9/11 and Able Danger to be mere coincidence, and with all of the pomp and circumstance of the 9/11 Commissars, this is the very first time I've seen or heard of that connection, or Hayden's name for that matter.

Just a thing that made me say Huuummmmmmmmm.

Could just be that Goss was put into CIA as point man to identify the problems there, and Hayden is the real heavy hitter who will have the charge to clean up the mess using his knowledge of where all the bodies are buried.

If my guess is right, those Beltway types must be about to give birth to mature porcupines at the prospect, and this confirmation process is going to look like a Holy War.

Will lurk during Rush -- got to clean basement. Went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and gave Warren Buffet more money for a new freezer. I wondered if any Freepers were here in Omaha for the big weekend. Watched Bill Gates playing bridge

The Judge seems like a very nice guy in general, but on many issues he's not my cup of tea.

Brian is a pretty good successor to Tony's show. He's only likely to get better. He asks good questions and doesn't take much crap!

Off topic, but I received the following from a friend in WI:

FROM THE LA TIMES NEWSPAPER

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County (L. A. County has 10 million people)
are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are
predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican
nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely
illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak
Spanish (10.2 million people in L. A. County).

(All 10 from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of
California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.

The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET
(after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year, [Professor
Donald Huddle, Rice University].

The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average
adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

If they can come to this country to raise Hell and march by the thousands, why can't they take charge over the corruption in their own country? We are fools for letting this continue. HEAR HEAR!!

I agree with you on almost all of the hosts. Gibson can be very funny. He's overbearing too, but he takes himself with good humour and is pretty knowledgable. But I can't deal with O'Reilly ... I listened to him a couple of times on the radio and he's just a bad radio host. The TV show has some good segments, but by 8 p.m. EDT, on 3 out of 5 days at the minimum I have something else I want to watch.

Just stay tuned to the News. I know the President is making a statement about Darfur (it was announced on C-Span Radio), and further we don't know about a briefing or not.

O'R is ok on most of the issues, as far as I can tell, but he is just such a shameless flirt (on both radio and tv) that it makes his act almost a comedy to me. You would think after his sexual harassment flap, he would be more careful.

No, he has his nose firmly up any 1/2-way pretty arse thatwinds up on his shows.
