"Yawn. New day, same old hysterics with the same old doom and gloomy delusions. Same sorts of losers said it in the 1820s, 1850s, 1860s, 1890s, 1910s, 1930s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Funny thing. The Republic survives long after the panic stricken are rotting meat."

I believe it's quite different now. In the 1890's you didn't have Irish coming here with the goal to make the U.S. an Irish Republic. I believe most Muslims would like the U.S. to become an Islamic Republic some day and the illegals demanding "Reconquista." Things are different in the 21st century.

Huh, how conviently we forget, "Irish need not apply" or "pig Irish" from the Boston Brahmans and others in the 19th century.

The more things change, the more things stay the same, especially with the resurgence of 19th century "know nothing" political thinking and cynicism by some on the right.
