I hate to say it but I'm not really sure who this Colbert is or why this jackass Elfman is pushing him so vigorously other then his being a fellow Bush-hater. Maybe that's enough.

That's a nasty article. Typical leftist hate-filled drivel.

When you read an article with a statement like this:
"On cable, only CNN still plays the journalism-school middle ground most of the time, questioning liberals, moderates and conservatives with equal skepticism and respect."
Then you know the author doesn't have a clue about reality.

Colbert's timing was off. His lead-ins to the jokes were too long to be effective. His delivery of the punchlines was staggered and jumpy.
His ending skit with Helen Thomas was initially humorous, but it rambled on much to long and lost its humor.
Colbert needs to go back to clown college. In comedy, timing is everything. Colbert's timing was way off.

This guy thinks Chris Matthews is a conservative? He's mad because some Bush-hater didn't get the same coverage as the President?
Thanks for posting an example of the deranged left.

I have only one question:
Why, Oh Way, does Dale Elfman (the author of this bit of nastiness) think I give a flying **** care about what he thinks or doesn't think about President Bush, Mr. Colbert, or anything else?

This guy actually thinks the media is conservative... truly laughable.
He puts Chris Mathews down as part of the conservative media.... that is truly ignorant.

These Bush-hating articles are more revealing of the people who write them rather than that of the people they are supposedly critiquing.
It's obvious like every other tv "critic" I've read, Elfman is a deranged, flaming liberal. Now honestly, any person who, like Elfman, is supposed to be knowlegeable about tv and believes it to be controlled by conservatives is thoroughly incompetent as well a barking moonbat.

Or maybe the reality is that out side of the demented world of Leftist Hate everyone losers the vast majority of Americans find Colbert's type of "humor" juvenile and extremely unfunny.

Colbert is one of those idiotic leftist 'comedians" who does a mock news anchor routine on a late night comedy show. I don't think many watch it unless of course you are a left wing dingbat. It's nothing but an hour of Bush bashing, something we get enough of all day from the media.
To: Chi-townChief
Elfman sounds like a real space cadet. He's living in a fantasy world. "Television critic!" Wow! ROTFL!!! Must be one of those jobs most Americans don't want to do. His being alive is really making the world a better place. A real Tube Boob.

"...I'm not really sure who this Colbert is or why this jackass Elfman is pushing him so vigorously..."Trust your gut instinct - Colbert is a sour political comedian and Elfman is just as sour - both have a fatal case of BBS. (Bush Bashing Syndrome)

The truth is many in the media wrote about Bush's stand-up routine at the dinner as if they had just watched the coming of a comic genius, but they didn't report much on Colbert's funnier, harsher jokes. Colbert wasn't funny. As a "humorist" he should be happy he wasn't the story.

"I stand by" Bush, Colbert cracked, "because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers and rubble, and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world."
It's not reported because it is not funny. Presidents have been staging photo ops since Theodore Roosevelt. Reagan was good at it too. So was Clinton (and he had more cooperation). George the Elder was not so good at it. George the Younger (with whom I have many beefs) at least learned not to make his father's mistakes.
