Iraq takes a positive turn

ABU Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaeda chieftain in Iraq (or maybe not, see below), is changing tactics, said London's Sunday Times.

Al-Zarqawi "is attempting to set up his own mini-army and move away from individual suicide attacks to a more organized resistance movement," wrote Michael Smith.

Col. John Gronski of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard indicated why the change in tactics isn't such a good idea. Colonel Gronski is commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the Pennsylvania Guard's 28th Infantry Division, stationed in Ar Ramadi.

Iraqi troops supported by Colonel Gronski's soldiers killed more than 100 insurgents in a battle last week, Colonel Gronski told CNN. Two Iraqi soldiers died in the battle. No Americans were killed.

Talk about putting a shine on a sneaker. Reports are that they're running out of suicide bombers, so now they're making it sound like a brilliant strategic move on Zarqawi's part to move away from their use.

Al Qaeda started with suicide bombers in the first place was because their "more organized resistance movement" got creamed every time it went up against coalition, and now Iraqi, troops. The fact that they are reverting to this obviously unsustainable strategy just further demonstrates how utterly toast the Zarkman and al Qaeda are in Iraq.

Well of course they get slaughtered, only in the lame stream media would a bunch of rag tag, uneducated, untrained, under nourished, rock throwing neanderthals be referred to as fierce fighters who may drive out the US Armed forces. What a joke.

They're not only running out of suicide bombers, they're running out of money. Too many of their supporters have been caught sending them money and those bank accounts have been seized.

I would think that would make the organized attack strategy look worse - since actually keeping troops alive, fed and happy costs a lot more money than letting people blow themselves up.

He does have to try something else since killing civilians - who are, after all, mostly Islamic - has turned even his erstwhile allies against him.

I like this news, and I've seen a fair amount of it lately.

The MSM, instead of featuring it, is today on my MSN homepage featuring the following headline:

"Iraqis Cheer at Downed Copter"...

Referring apparently to a British one recently hit by a missle near Basra.

You would think that all of Iraq was thrilled that the Brits were hit and killed.

Makes me GAG.

Of course you are right. That suggests this is a ground up decision - the grunts are tired of being called on for suicide missions and won't fight unless they are with buddies. Irrational perhaps as a winning strategy, but not so strange considering human nature.

Retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey, who served as President Clinton's drug czar and has been sharply critical of the Bush Administration's conduct of the war, recently returned from a trip to Iraq.

This opera ain't over, but the fat lady is warming up.

Finally some good news from someone other then a Bushbot.

This is great news. Our forces will be able to take them out in much larger numbers. One wonders from where this guy is getting his advice. Centcom?

I agree with you.

I've wondered if it's just an ego thing with Zarky because he's been hearing that we're winning BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT A STANDING ARMY .. and maybe he deceived enough to believe if he has a standing army he can defeat us.

Poor thing .. got to be stupid to go up against our military.

AND, the Iraqi's are increasingly informing on these vermin. Enough Iraqi's want to get on with their lives, and have realized that forming a government will hasten the departure of the coalition forces and they can get about making a living. When comparing this outcome with endless bombings and attacks by radical islamist outsiders and their home-grown whackos constantly roiling the country, the choice isn't really too difficult.

Yes they are! And .. a lot of the informants have been children. That gives much hope for future generations.

Yes, and the average American is NEVER going to hear this. I was out for groceries today and decided to listen to how NPR was spinning the Bush speech. Their report on Iraq made it sound as though the country was ablaze and the Americans were being pushed into the sea.

Sedition lives!

The contrast in news coverage is mind-blowing.

Brazil picks up 104 people each morning who were shot dead the night before...36,000 people shot to death each year there, yet Rio de Janiero is a "vacation paradise" while Iraq, with 10 bodies found on a bad day, is "chaotic anarchy" according to the left-wing news media.

There's 10 times more violence in peaceful Brazil than in war-torn Iraq...ten times!

Yep, Sedition lives, and what do WE do about it?

(While to actually rip the tongue out of most of the MSM would cause great emotional satisfaction, such actions ARE frowned upon in polite society.)

Perhaps we should start a "yellow" media campaign?

I drive a truck across the lower 48, and when I stop @ truck stops, Rest Areas, and other places where Semi can get in and out of, I carry with me a pad of little yellow (1/2" dia) dots. I leave them somewhere on the News-paper box so as to warn like minded folks that within is contained more yellow dog "journalism" designed for political advantage of the PTB, and not the benefit of the reader or country.

Yeah, I know its childish, and probably not very effective, but it is at least something besides just complaining to like minded folks about what the problem is.

And some of the 'discussions' I get into are actually fairly stimulating too.
