After his second smash-up in three weeks - and a lot of unanswered questions about an alleged police cover-up - Rep. Patrick Kennedy yesterday declared that he's entering rehab to deal with an addiction to painkillers. This was hardly the congressman's first such incident. And he was in rehab just last Christmas.......the son of Sen. Ted Kennedy, said he doesn't remember anything about the incident, but that he's "deeply concerned." (At least no one died in the back seat.) The congressman crashed the car he was driving at 2:45 a.m. into a Capitol Hill traffic barrier after he narrowly averted broadsiding a cop cruiser.
He'd been speeding (in the wrong lane) and did not have his headlights on, cops said. A police report says his eyes were "red and watery," he was unsteady on his feet and his speech was "slightly slurred" - in short, it said, Kennedy was clearly driving under the influence. But under the influence of what?
Kennedy's latest fender-bender follows an April 15 accident with a car he apparently cut off. (Police did not publicize the incident, but a Boston paper found out 10 days later.) In recent years, he was accused of assaulting a Los Angeles airport guard after he tried to squeeze an oversize piece of luggage through a metal detector. Kennedy admitted he'd been rude and offered to settle the case for $25,000. Soon after, he was accused of causing $28,000 worth of damage to a rented yacht in Martha's Vineyard; his insurance company paid off the owner. At about the same time, the Coast Guard was called in to escort a female friend off the yacht following a heated argument.

Unfortunately they do not hold up well in a collision with a Kennedy barrier. Oops that should be Jersey barrier.
Now that's a good one I'll have to remember!
But since it is a Kennedy, it is "hush, hush."
I think it is just assumed versus "hush, hush."
It was a good thing that he was not driving on a bridge over water with a young lady beside him. It could have been much worse. Then, he'd really be following in his uncle's foot steps.
The cops that did not adminster a "breathalizer" should be forced to surrender their guns and badges, IMHO.
They're too busy trying to keep clean-energy, environmentally-friendly windmills away from Nantucket.
That's the gayest Mustang I've ever seen.
Like father like son.
It is patronage machine politics. Joe Kennedy was the boss dispensing the favors. The big dig was the most recent example. It is a form of corruption that we need to excise in Boston and Chicago.
Imagine if you could be assured the cops would never arrest you because you paid their salary. Welcome to the d. c. police force bought and paid for in full by the U S Congress. Anyone that watched the Condit affair should know these are no more than private security guards for the reps.
The shame is not that the Kennedy's cling to the myth of Camelot, but that so many Americans do, people who should know better but cannot shed their illusions.
You know what I don't understand - why don't rich drunks just get drivers?
The New England tradition: reward the Kennedy with a lifetime seat.

As for your MP&HG allusion, it doesn't quite work here. It's pretty obvious that the fruit fell very close to the tree here. It's almost like "survival of the fittest" turned upside down. The more putrid and worthless the Kennedy, the longer he lives.
Ted Kennedy's accident involving the death of Mary Jo Kopechne in the Chappaquiddick incident, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. started refusing food and became uninterested in life. He died shortly afterwards on November 18, 1969.
Joseph P. Kennedy
Kennedy formed alliances with several other Irish-Catholic money men, including Charles E. Mitchell, Michael J. Meehan and Bernard Smith. He helped establish the Libby-Owens-Ford stock pool, an arrangement in which Kennedy and colleagues created an artificial scarcity of Libby-Owens-Ford stock to drive up the value of their own holdings in the stock. Using inside information, and the public's lack of knowledge, a pool operator would bribe journalists to present that information in the most advantageous manner. The stocks would then change in price up or down depending on the position favoured by the pool.
Kennedy got out of the market in 1928, long before the Crash, locking in multi-million dollar profits. Indeed when the 1929 crash did come, he made money due to his short positions.
During Prohibition, Kennedy's company Somerset Importers became the exclusive American agent for Gordon's Dry Gin and Dewar's Scotch which was only allowed to be imported during Prohibition for medicinal purposes. Anticipating the end of Prohibition (not difficult to do as it slowly passed through the required number of states) he assembled a very large inventory of stock that he sold for a profit of millions of dollars when Prohibition was repealed in 1933. He invested this money in residential and commercial real estate, the Merchandise Mart in Chicago and Hialeah Race Track in Hialeah, Florida.

Good grief!
............If those dummies from Mass. want to keep electing a jerk .............
I hate to admit that it's the dummies in my state, RI, that keep this jerk in office
Don't feel bad. The dummies in my state kept electing Clintons until the entire country had to suffer and still suffers. Don't ask me why either. I will never understand it. I think they would reelect Clinton today if they could.
