The main message is the Sunday Shows. Message 1 will be the Saturday Shows and message 2 will be the show guest links post. Then I'll post the ping list.
ABC This Week (George Stephanopoulos)
- Meme:
- The battle is joined! Place your bets! How badly will the GOP lose?
- Topics:
- Power Politics: Two Sunday exclusives as former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and DNC Chairman Howard Dean join me to discuss gas prices, the 2006 elections and the war in Iraq.
- Will record low approval ratings for President Bush and rising gas prices fuel a Democratic takeover of Congress in November?
- On our roundtable, The Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel, former Ohio Congressman John Kasich, ABC News' Martha Raddatz and George Will join me to debate the week's politics.
- And, outgoing White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan reflects on his three-year stint in one of Washington's most difficult jobs.
- Guests
- Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Tx.
- I think they think that DeLay is an easy target. To mis-quote Bugs Bunny, "they don't know him very well, do they?"
- Howard Dean, chair, Democratic National Committee
- Republicans are evil racists who want to close the borders and arrest all Mexican's, legal or illegal. Therefore the DNC plan is to seal the borders.
- Roundtable:
- Martha Raddatz
- Bush lied, Bush Leaked and Bush is really, really, dumb.
- John Kasich
- John is the most ineffective "conservative" Republican available and also likely to bash Bush. A twofer!
- Katrina vanden Heuvel
- There is no God, but if there was one, he died this week (J K Galbraith, 1908-2006)
- George Will
- Not only does he hate George Bush, but he suddenly loves any Democrat who opposes him and, on top of that, completely dismisses Tony Snow! ABC is so pleased!
- VOICES: Scott McClellan
- Suddenly, the press will say how much they loved and respect Scott. Of course, they expect Scott to stab the President in the back in exchange...
- ABC This Week comment web page

- Meme:
- Let the rehabilitation of John McCain begin
- The price for CBS to help with the rehabilitation? Bush bashing, of course!

- Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
- "Do not believe anything you think you heard me say regarding the first amendment on Imus!"
- Face The Nation contact information - ftn@cbsnews.com
CNN Late Edition (Wolf Blitzer)
- Meme:
- The GOP "leaks" too! Bush, Roberts, they all "leak!"
- Topics:
- Well look at what the resignation of CIA chief Porter Goss means for the future of the agency and U.S. intelligence gathering.
- Guests
- Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas: Senate Select Intelligence Committee chairman
- Rep. Jane Harman, D-California: House Select Intelligence Committee member
- Mike Leavitt: Health and Human Services secretary
- Leaking is bad (as in urinating in public)
- Dr. Mowaffak al-Rubaie: Iraq's national security adviser
- Remember Iraq? We're doing much better now.

- Topics:
- Porter Goss' resignation (Hoekstra)
- Immigration debate (Specter/Gilchrist)
- Guests
- Rep. Pete Hoekstra
- What was that Who song? Won't get fooled again?
- Sen. Arlen Specter
- George Bush is more evil than even the Democrats are willing to say, but not good old Arlen
- Jim Gilchrist, founder of The Minuteman Project
- The debate could be interesting, but does FNS feel the need to trash him as a NAZI to gain "cred" with the MSM?
- Mark Lerner, new Washington Nationals owner (power player)
- Fox News Sunday contact information - FNS@foxnews.com
NBC Meet The Press (Tim Russert)
- Meme:
- The battle is joined! Place your bets! How badly will the GOP lose?
- Topics:
- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) joins Tim Russert on this Sunday's "Meet the Press" to discuss gas prices, immigration, the war in Iraq, and the 2006 Elections.
- Then, insights and analysis in our "Meet the Press Roundtable" with two top-reporters ... the Washington Post's Dan Balz and Vanity Fair's Todd Purdum. They will discuss Bush's new White House team and second-term agenda, as well as Purdum's new profile of Dick Cheney, which traces the Vice President's transformation into one of American politics' most controversial figures. The article is titled "A Face Only a President Could Love" and appears in the June 2006 issue of Vanity Fair.
- Then, a special live appearance by the comedian and presidential impressionist Steve Bridges, who had all of Washington seeing double with his remarkable joint-routine with President Bush at the White House Correspondent's Dinner last weekend.
- Guests
- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-CA
- Anything and everything bad that has ever happened or ever will happen is George Bush's fault. Didn't you know that?
- roundtable
- Dan Balz, Washington Post
- The Bush administration finally listened to us and decided to sack people
- The Bush administration sacking people is a sign that they are a failure
- Todd Purdum, Vanity Fair
- Dick Cheney is the anti-Christ and he's got Cheney's daughter's own words to twist in order to prove it!
- Plus, political impressionist Steve Bridges
- Steve, Steve, Steve! You realize you're doomed now, don't you?
- What would you like to ask this week's guests? (web page for submitting questions for this weeks show)
- Meet the Press mailbox (web page for comments)
This is NOT intended to be the live Sunday Morning Talk Show thread. I trust AB will do that as usual. This is strictly a preview of who will be on the main shows. The idea is to give folks a chance to muster their resources for that thread. I would particularly ask that anyone with specific knowledge or resources about the topics / guests announced for these shows post them here so that the rest of us can go into the shows with a heads up on what to look for. For example,

PingThe Weekend Preview Thread is up
If you would like on or off my ping list please Freepmail me
The most interesting guests to me will be the possible confrontations between Specter and Gilchrist (FNS) and DeLay and Dean (ABCTW). I have a feeling one or both shows will wimp out and let the Dem/RINO appear separately and have the last word. I also find it interesting that CBSFTN feels it necessary to start the rehabilitation of John McCain already.
The dominant meme appears to be that the preliminaries are over and the battle between the GOP and dims is well and truly joined. Bush may not be over, thanks to his finally listening to the talking heads and shaking up his administration, but it's probably too little too late since he didn't fire Rumsfeld and Cheney shaking up his administration only proves that he's doomed. And since Iraq seems to be going better let's totally ignore what goes on there (unless it hurts Bush).

I was watching Fox News this evening...and they advertised that Joe Biden and Specter would be on Sunday....
I guess they called an audible...they didn't mention Gilchrest, but that doesn't mean he won't be on.
BTW..did you see the new thread with Specter calling yet again for investigation into "Presidential Power", re: the NSA wiretapps???

Why does Timmy Russert seem to always have Democrats on by themselves, with no Republican to rebut?
But, on the rare occasion he has on a Republican, he always has on a Dem afterwards to rebut???
Rhetorical questions, of course.

I think I heard a long time ago...that Howard Dean never agrees to directly debate...he insists on being on by himself..
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading a note about that within the last few years...so, your hope for a Delay vs. Dean confrontation probably won't happen.

I remember his parting words to Samuel A. Alito -- Specter..Now I still want to talk about this Presidential Power thing. Alito... Yes, we will get together and talk.

We can only hope. I kinda liked him in Congress. I think he stinks as a talking head.

You probably have already read, or at least skimmed through, two of the pieces listed under Ms. Vanden Huevel's name, but, if not, they are worth it for the sake of amusement, if nothing else: "Tomgram" (my synopsis: this woman is the most depressed, unhappy communist in this country), and "Media Whores" which attempts to prove that Vanden Huevel is run by the CIA and spouts the Administration's policy. It's a crazy world out there, folks.

Yeah, I included the 'Media Whores' link for exactly that reason. There are the usual moonbats, like vanden Huevel, then there are the barking moonbats, like the folks that wrote that article.

Mark Kilmer has posted his preview on RedState.COM
|
For Sunday, May 7, 2006Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert has an EXCLUSIVE! Call the kids! Call gramps! (IF you are either a kid or a gramps, alert another kid or gramps!) Russert's guest will be House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California)! FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace will talk to Pete Hoekstra (R-Michigan) on Porter Goss' resignation. Then he'll talk to Arlen Specter and Joe Biden. Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer to yacks it up with John McCain. This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos talks to Tom DeLay and Howard Stern Dean, the magic man of the DNC. Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer will talk to Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts of Kansas and House Intelligence ranking Dem Jane Harman of California about Porter Goss. He'll also talk to HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt, perhaps about bird flu, and his usual cast of thousands. ------ Well, we've got McCain (FTN) and Joe Biden (FNS) this week, with Snarlin' Arlen also making an appearance on the air (FNS, with Joe Biden). MTP will be interesting to monitor because Pelosi will struggle to stick to the script. She tends to freelance, saying some of the funkiest things in politics. It'll be interesting to see if Harman (LE) is still nuts. I wonder what the Hammer has to say (TW), and Howard Dean isn't funny anymore. The joke is too old. |

The FNS web site still list Specter and Gilchrist and does not mention Biden. Are they bumping Gilchrist and putting on Biden as "balance" for Specter? That would be totally bizarre.

As per Mark Kilmer on RedState
(Gilchrist is) bumped for Biden, but he evidently has been. I think Wallace was faced with time constraints and opted to drop immigration, an issue for the past umpteen weeks anyway, for something fresher.
Of course, Gilchrist might have cancelled.
So, scratch immigration and switch in Porter Goss for that issue. Might that decision have anything to do with the fact that the polls are overwhelmingly going against the MSM "conventional wisdom" on (illegal) immigration?

Might that decision have anything to do with the fact that the polls are overwhelmingly going against the MSM "conventional wisdom" on (illegal) immigration?Things that make you go hmmmm. Having completely failed to convince Americans that down is up and bad is good, they will now go behind closed doors to let the elites decide how to do what they know the overwhelming number of voters don't want. I am relying on Sessions and Kyl to stay on the job, and Bohner in the House says there is no way we will get the Senate version of the amnesty travesty.

Thanks for the posting and heads up. This thread is a good preview to what most likely comes up on the talk shows.
This week, I disagree to a little extent. All the old media folks are learning its too soon, especially since President Bush keeps escaping their carefully laid traps and plans, to go on too much of an attack. Add in the fiasco with Cynthia McKinney last week and Patrick Kennedy this week, and the Democrats need to regroup, along with the press.
Nancy Pelosi will continue insisting Republicans are the party of corruption in the face of Jefferson being indicted, and all the other revelations of corrupt Democrats. She gets the DNC memos but theres real concern she reads it and does not understand the words. The greatest aspect of Pelosi is she really does project the very worst persona of what Democrat leadership would look like. She is one of the few who is corrupt, and nobody has explained it to her, so she is unaware of it.
I think the rehabilitation of John McCain is a red herring. CBS has no desire to do that, hes simply filler for this weekend as CBS continues to put together their case against Republicans in favor of Democrats. If anything, CBS is gathering sound bites to use against other Republicans in the future. McCain wants on because he realizes his standing is tanking and he wants to shore it up if he can.
Immigration will still be talked about, although it will be used to damn both parties for not being sympathetic enough. GOP worse than Democrats, but both to blame. Still, with the Patrick Kennedy problem, Im not sure anyone will talk about Teddys bill on immigration. It would be too easy of a lead-in to talk about Patrick.
ABC will continue using partial comments from both George Will and John Kasich to further disparage Republicans. Howard Dean will be asked about his comments this past week on immigrants with the suggestion that Democrats dictate the agenda for that issue now.
To: Phsstpok
Great job phsstpok!
Wow what a lot of work you do on this thread!
Really great research!
Anyone reading this can't help but be ready for the action Sunday morning. I will miss most of the thread until late tomorrow, hope all goes well.
