Fellow FReepers, your prayers are urgently needed for MamaB and her husband and family. I received the following email from her this morning:
We got more bad news yesterday at the Kirklin Clinic. There is no treatment available right now unless the dr. down there can find a clinical study at a cancer research center like in San Antonio. He has 6-9 months to live without any treatment. We are all heartbroken and disgusted with the oncologist here who shoul have found this months if not years ago. Could you tell the people on the Dose tonight? Thanks.
I have already notified the "Day in the life..." (Dose) thread custodians, and thought this prayer request might bring the family some measure of comfort.
Thank you in advance for all who take a few moments out of your busy day to post your thoughts and prayers here.

No problem, Wolfstar.
I don't know MamaB very well, but I do know just from reading her posts on the Dose that she has already been through so much ... I'm sorry to hear about this.

I don't know MamaB very well, but I do know just from reading her posts on the Dose that she has already been through so much ... I'm sorry to hear about this.I don't either, and like you, mostly from the Dose. But when she first told us about her husband's diagnosis, I offered whatever help a stranger who knows her only in the virtual world of the internet could offer. I'm touched that she asked -- and trusted -- me to spread the word today of the terminal diagnosis, and was more than happy to do what I could.
I only hope this prayer thread, if she sees it, will bring her and her husband a measure of comfort.

well it's a strong chemo drug usually for colo-rectal cancer but used for other types of cancer.
She might be able to find something at www.clinicaltrials.gov but the main thing is (IMO) to have confidence in the oncologist and not tell them what to do. Sometimes that might not be easy but getting to a good one takes care of that. And don't go printing out a ton of internet info and take it into the doctor and tell them "here, read this". LOL. But a 2nd opinion from a specialist in that area of treatment is a good thing, I think. A decent oncologist who you are not satisfied with will not object to a 2nd opinion. If they're good then a 2nd opinion will only confirm their findings. At least it seems so. Two heads are better then one, etc... But there are some out there who seem to not be as good as others with their bedside manners.
Places like MD Anderson, Mayo, Moffit, etc all have trials and info for a specific type of cancer being treated.
That is, if her husband wants to go thru with that. Some people choose not to.

Oh and when I posted "cpt11" I didnt see the comment about it being in his liver. I dont know if its used for that or not.
