He was originally named 'Tooth-Pick Man' but that was changed when it was realized that that name may upset the Indians.

*sigh*

[junk store owner] "Here's a one of a kind keepsake -- the skull of the Kennewick man."

[tourist] "Have anything newer?"

[junk store owner] "Okay, here's the skull of the Kennewick boy."

Will ping when I get home, or put it into the Digest and ping that.

Chatters was also the first to suspect the great age of the Stickman skull, which he saw in the CWU collection while seeking a colleague's opinion on the Kennewick Man bones. No one at the college could remember where the skull had come from, and there were no records.
I guess that blows away any claim to it under NAGPRA.

Han Chinese generally are Asian.

Asians were probably in China first.

Some people figure Kennewick Man's features were more similar to Polynesian than European.

"Han Chinese generally are Asian."

That's true today but may not have always been the case. There were still Caucasion only graveyards in China all the way up to 1300AD.

That's because we don't waste our time with 'stuff' that's been 'made up'.

"Asians were probably in China first."

Not all Asians are Mongoloids.

Professor Stephen Oppenheimer says that the oldest (undisputed) Mongoloid skeleton ever found is only 10,000 years old.

More like the Ainu of Japan. The Ainu are descendents of the Jomon who I suspect are the 'father' of both the Mongoloids and Caucasians and they both may have their origins in Sundaland.

Asian is kind of a largish classification.

No one at the college could remember where the skull had come from, and there were no records.

Good thing this was the action of professionals; had an amateur been guilty of such egregious lack of documentation, the pros would be screaming for Congress to pass even more stringent anti-touching laws.

The mummies of Urum-Chi didn't have Han DNA.

Han Chinese are the dominant ethnic group in China, 93% of the population. When you think "Chinese" you mean Han.

"The mummies of Urum-Chi didn't have Han DNA."

First of all, how do you know that?

Second, the mummies of Urumchi were there before the Han showed up beginning around 100-200BC. They later mixed (amongst themselves and others) and are known today as the Uighyrs.
