FERNDALE, Mich. A conservative Christian group leading a boycott of Ford Motor Co. over its gay-friendly policies has criticized the automaker's links to a June event in suburban Detroit that features a same-sex commitment ceremony.
The Tupelo, Miss.-based American Family Association long has criticized Ford for advertising in gay media, sponsoring gay events and maintaining personnel policies that are supportive of gay rights.
In March, the association was among 19 groups that reinstated a boycott against Ford over the issue.
The association is supporting a shareholder's proposal at Ford's May 11 annual meeting that would amend the company's equal employment policy to exclude sexual orientation. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission denied Ford's request to keep the issue off the agenda.
In an April 18 posting on its Web site, the American Family Association criticizes Ford's sponsorship of the Motor City Pride event, scheduled June 3-4 in Ferndale.
"Showing contempt for the concerns of traditional families, Ford has agreed to sponsor the 'Family Area' at the Motor City Pride Event ... which will feature a homosexual marriage 'commitment ceremony,' the association said.
Citing Ford's financial problems and sales decline, it said, "It appears that Ford is more willing to face bankruptcy than ending their support of homosexual groups and causes."
Ford said that the association's message is highly misleading. It said that the Ford Motor Co. Fund is a sponsor of the gay pride event but not of the commitment ceremony.
Perhaps Ford doesn't want me to buy a new Mustang to replace my old Mustang.
Before I jump on Ford I would like to see a list of the other companies that support gay rights.
More on Ford Motor Company funding the homosexualization of society...
Ford said that the association's message is highly misleading. It said that the Ford Motor Co. Fund is a sponsor of the gay pride event but not of the commitment ceremony.
Oh okay... Ford just funds the disordered sexual activity pride event NOT the disordered sexual activity commitment ceremony...
/end sarcasm
"Before I jump on Ford I would like to see a list of the other companies that support gay rights."
There are several others, but like AFA stated... we have to pick our battles, in order for the boycott to be effective.
Concentrate on one and the others will know what is coming.
The AFA stooges simply picked a company they KNEW would have falling sales so they could CLAIM victory. This tactic has failed miserably in the past when they've gone after strong companies.
"The AFA stooges simply picked a company they KNEW would have falling sales so they could CLAIM victory."
AFA initiated the boycott in May of '05'. If AFA KNEW what Ford sales would be in March '06', Ford really should HIRE AFA, don't you think?
"This tactic has failed miserably in the past when they've gone after strong companies."
Being involved with AFA, I would be very interested in some examples of these 'miserable failures".

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a company whose sales are falling at rates of 5-7% and who relies on SUVs and pickups for the vast majority of its sales is still going to see falling sales when gas prices are soaring.... The AFA certainly isn't full of geniuses....
"Being involved with AFA, I would be very interested in some examples of these 'miserable failures"."
That Disney boycott really worked, didn't it? Or how about the boycott of P&G, which really killed its sales. Oh, wait, their sales rose to record levels while you boycotted them. I won't even start on the accuracy of the reports AFA used there....
"That Disney boycott really worked, didn't it? Or how about the boycott of P&G, which really killed its sales."
Disney and P&G were before I joined them but I have no doubt they were effective. It would be a bit of a stretch to say that 18 Christian organizations, with hundreds of thousands to millions of consumers boycotting your products, were not effective to some degree.
Wildmon has said that "the boycott of Disney is now a matter of personal conviction, rather than a matter of AFA ministry emphasis... We encourage people to continue boycotting if they believe that to be the right thing to do."
Its a matter of princple, as such, boycotts should be a matter of personal conviction.
If you support the homosexual agenda, don't boycott. If you don't agree with or support boycotts, don't boycott. Its that simple.
