Poll shows Tommy - that's right, Tommy - ahead of Doyle [Thompson]

A new poll shows Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle locked in a tight race with Republican challenger U.S. Rep. Mark Green.

But the poll shows former Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson - who has reportedly been considering running for his old job - leading Doyle by nearly a two-to-one margin.

The poll by Strategic Vision, an Atlanta-based polling firm with Republican ties, shows Thompson leading Doyle 58 percent to 30 percent.

Thompson, the state's longest-serving and most popular governor, leads Green in a potential Republican primary match-up by better than a three-to-one margin: 69 percent to 20 percent.

Doyle leads Green by 45 percent to 43 percent, which is within the poll's 3 percentage point margin of error.

Thompson, who left the governor's office in 2001 to become U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, has not said whether he will enter the governor's race.

He is also frequently mentioned as a possible challenger to Democratic U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl.

Thompson, 64, has promised to make his plans public in mid-May.

The poll also shows Thompson leading Kohl, but by a much slimmer margin, 45 to 41 percent.

The poll of 800 likely Wisconsin voters, which was conducted between April 28 to 30, shows little public satisfaction with both Doyle and the Republican-controlled Legislature.

Fifty-one percent said they disapproved of Doyle's performance, while 47 percent said they disapproved of the Legislature's overall performance.

Both, however, fared better than President Bush, who received a 61 percent disapproval rating in general, and a 64 percent disapproval rating for his handling of the war in Iraq.

For your list

Needless to say, this is AWFUL!!!

But you have to love.

Both, however, fared better than President Bush, who received a 61 percent disapproval rating in general, and a 64 percent disapproval rating for his handling of the war in Iraq.

As though GWB is going to run for Governor of Wisconsin.

How about Tommy for Senate.

That's where we can use a good man.

"Tommy! Save Us From Ourselves" Ping!

I kind of doubt that Tommy would want to be Governor again, though it just might be what he needs to rinse the taste of Washington DC out of his mouth and remove the stench from his clothes, LOL! His wife stays right here in Wisconsin, no matter where he goes, so I don't think she enters the equasion.

I'd love to see him go after Kohl...and I have an inkling that that MAY be the case because "Nobody's Senator" (Kohl, for those not paying attention) has awoken from his stupor over the past few months and rubbed the sleep from his somniferous eyes.

I was called last night to do some more "free freelance" work on the Green campaign. Think I'll wait until "Mid-May" to commit myself one way or another. ;)

Not going to happen. Nobody's Senator, Herb Kohl, guaranteed himself another 6 years by virtue of the Milwaukee Bucks' playoff appearance, and King RINO, Tommy Thompson, doesn't enter any fights he cannot win.

Current odds on King RINO's immediate ballot future:

1-2 - Stays off the ballot entirely
3-1 - He boots Mark Green off the governor's ballot after the "R"PW determines that the Green Team did too much outreach to conservatives
10-1 - He takes on Nobody's Senator

Tommy Thompson (King RINO-Elroy) was the longest-serving governor in Wisconsin history before President Bush dragged him off to DC to be Health and Human Services secretary.

Jim "Craps" Doyle (D-Madison, or as I often say, WEAC/Potawatomi-For Sale, because EVERYTHING about state government has been for sale the last 3+ years except Craps' pandering to the techers unions and the Indians) is, unfortunately, our current governor after Tommy's little brother Ed peeled off enough votes from Tommy's successor, Scott McCallum, for Craps to get a plurality.

Unlike his dip stick brother...

I would hate to see Green out of a job here...lost to congress
and Thompson...

I would much rather Green in Madison than Thompson...

Tommy would make a great ambassador to Mexico...like Lucy before him..

He could tell the Mexicans how we still shoot those dam West Nile Virus infected crows

Kohl is a miserable joke. He has the cash to reach into his pocket and buy what amounts to, for him, another trophy for his mantlepiece, all the while cheating Wisconsin from serious representation. Thompson is about the only antidote the Republicans have to Kohl's wallet.

"Thompson is about the only antidote the Republicans have to Kohl's wallet."

Agreed. I think Tommy will challenge Kohl. Tommy's old "Money Man" is currently head fundraiser for Green.

Hopefully that will be the announcement at the GOP Convention mid-May.

I like the Mexican Ambassador idea for Tommy too, but I prefer he be my Senator. He would undermine Feingold and expose him to be the traitor he is at every opportunity. Man, that would be rich!! :)
