It's been a quiet week in St. Paul, Minnesota, our hometown.
The mayor turned on his police lights to halt a fleeing citizen after a fender-bender. The Senate Tax Committee is turning everything to mush. Bodies so naked they don't even have skin are on display at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
We welcome the world-class actors who will be cruising down Wabasha Street this evening for the opening of the movie version of "A Prairie Home Companion." This is a pretty big deal for St. Paul not like the high school wrestling tournament, but pretty big all the same.
We're a city that likes our artists. Sort of.

Spring has finally arrived in the Twin Cities, but you wouldn't know it from the trail of white powder that follows Lindsay Lohan.
Many years ago, Garrison Keillor was interesting. I didn't listen to his show much - but they did have some god musicians on it.
As the years went by, Keillor became more and more impressed - with himself. He envisioned himself a commentator and an ordinary guy - and in fact, he's neither!
Like you, I'm gonna take a pass on this movie too. I don't want even one cent of my own money to land in Keillor's pockets.

when our state considers Denny Hecker and Garrison Keillor to be home-town celebrities, I guess this is HUGH!
(blushing from embarassment)
He was a putz even before he said that in Lake Woebegon they're all Blue Staters. I love reading nostalgic books about small towns and this show would seem to be right up my alley, but the word "trite" is too kind when applied to this lame stuff. To hear the audience you'd think you were listening to classic comedy/drama.
Considering how snobby they are, the PBS crowd likes really tame humor and sappy drama.
He now envisions himself to be "a liberal Rush Limbaugh". He is not that, either. Rush has more original ideas in a single hour than Keillor has in two years of shows.
Yup, PHC was fun for about two seasons, worth listening to for another season and a half, and since then has been a crashing bore.
Keillor's only recent good work is his 5 minute a day Writer's Almanac.
