This is disgusting. Have the mainland Chinese become the new mooselimbs that we dare not offend? Where did our balls go?

This is crazy. This is what Clinton did.Bush needs mainland China to help pressure Iran. The one thing he doesn't need is to piss off Hu by allowing Chen to make a big deal of his stopping in the US. Hell, he's on his way to South America anyway!

Welcome to the world we live in.
It is called "Realpolitik."

A US source said yesterday that US President George W. Bush will allow President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) to transit through the US on his way to and from Latin America. Bush authorized Chen to stop in Honolulu, Hawaii, on his way to Latin America, and in Anchorage, Alaska, on his return flight. And in return.....the US has been assured that China will sit back and allow for us to bomb the hell out of Iran. Right?
To: tallhappy
This is very, very disappointing.

Pretty simple boys and girls. I think this means China may "abstain" in the future on some key UN resolution if you catch my drift.

They are when we're eyeball-to-eyeball with Iran and they're the go-between. I know that, but wouldn't it be better if they were afraid of offending us, instead of the other way around? Things have changed because we are increasingly being viewed as appeasers, Iraq and Afganistan notwithstanding.

I don't recall an apology. I recall an "expression of sorrow" for the families of the deceased.

From President Bush's second Inaugural Address:
The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world...From the day of our Founding, we have proclaimed that every man and woman on this earth has rights, and dignity, and matchless value, because they bear the image of the Maker of Heaven and earth. Across the generations we have proclaimed the imperative of self-government, because no one is fit to be a master, and no one deserves to be a slave...
We will persistently clarify the choice before every ruler and every nation the moral choice between oppression, which is always wrong, and freedom, which is eternally right...
(note: does not apply to Taiwan)

It is not the time for the Taiwanese to make a stink. As others have said, Realpolitik requires some unpleasantness at times.
