It's been a long time since these Friday night revelries began. They weren't all as positive and fun as they are these days. For those who'd like to step back in history, here's a list of reports chronicling all of the WR FReeps as compiled and updated by BufordP. Pay special attention to Week 40 -- that's when concretebob kicked CodePink to the curb and we took ownership of ALL FOUR CORNERS.
Tonight was clear as a bell in contrast to last week's downpour. Lots of folks turned out to take advantage of such a nice night and celebrate our heroes who are recovering from wounds suffered in service to our great nation. The DC Chapter and many FReepers from out of town had a terrific time. The list of attendees:
Albion Wilde, bert, Bill from MD*, bstein80, BufordP, Cindy-True-Supporter, Danang68, DollyCali and Freepups Josy and Toby, Exit148, GunsAreOK, JustANobody, Jimmy Valentine's Brother, Kristinn, Pasquale, PleaDeal, Taco Mamma, StayTrue, tgslTakoma, Tom TheRedHunter, Trooprally [Mr. and Mrs.], and Wheelbarrow. (If I left anybody out, sound off in the comments.) Mr. Sparling was back in town with son and hero Joshua Sparling, and he stopped by to say hello. We were also favored by the company of two OIF vets, Evan and Tim who bravely went waaaaaay down the block to find out what the lefty moonbats think Troop Support really is.
Now for some pics. For all the ones I took, see the Photobucket collection for this night.

BufordP and I were approached by a local business owner who said he wanted to show his support for us and offered free drinks if we came to his restaurant. Thank you Mr. Reyes!!!! Be sure to patronize el Tamarindo (just a block or so north of the WR gates) and say thanks to Mr. Reyes for his generosity.
Tonight was made extra special by the return of -- SQUEEGEE! Yes, that lanky character was back with his wingnut Pinko friends and stoically ignoring the the men and women he supposedly supports.
Um, ... NO! |

So much for Pinkos. |

The only bad thing about tonight is that it marks the last time Fran O'Brien's will host a dinner for the wounded warriors at the Capital Hilton. It seems, however, that Hal and Marty aren't giving up completely. See Sandrat's post for the future plans. There was no bus tonight (unless it came reaaaaalllly late). We stayed 'till after 10pm anyway. It really was a nice night!
DollyCali's FReepups liked it. |
tgslTakoma's new MOAB2 looked great! |
And we enjoyed some great company. |
What more can you ask for? Come next week and join the FReep!
Our Troops appreciate it almost as much as we appreciate them!
Every Friday - on ALL FOUR CORNERS at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Elder Street in NW D.C. - starts at 6:30p and goes until 9:30ish - bring your own signs, flags, banners or use one of a gazzillion on hand (thanks tgslTakoma!) and most importantly bring your enthusiasm!

Walter Reed FReep supporting troops Friday Night in DC.
Below is Kristinn(president of DC chapter); Bert from Tennessee; and Wheelbarrow (age 80, WW2, Bronze Star recipient), whom I traveled with from Ohio for the 3 weekend FReeps
Bill (wheelbarrow) and I are here towards the end of rally
Here are a few of the troops who stood with us for awhile. Various young men & women joined us for varying lengths of time & visited & stood with us. We had all four corners of the entrance (2 corners that Code Pink formerly held)
Yes, OF COURSE, the pooches came along. Here are shots of Toby & Josy being good FReepPups
Great pictures, Dolly! ..God Bless All Who Serve Our Country. I feel so good knowing there are people out there doing these tributes and giving support! Thank you and all who do this!
Thanks Meg.. If you & yours can plan a DC trip to include Friday PM, DO SO!
I have been wanting to do this since last Fall. got in 3 FReeps in one weekend.
Look who has the biggest smile...Gotta love 'em.
He was a very personable young man. And the smile could melt a frozen heart, I do believe
Excellent photos! Thank you for the ping to see. Great you have your dogs with you. :)
I've been trying to get down there since last fall. It hasn't worked out yet. At some point, I would really like to go.
It's awesome seeing everyone down there supporting our Troops. Thank you so much and God Bless!
I have hoped to come join you guys for the Friday night FReep for several months. I finally made it.
I suppose Spring time and warm weather might have had something to do with it. I truly appreciate the "Neither rain nor snow nor dark of night will prevent the DC types from their appointed FReep" attitude.
Thanks for your warm welcome.
For FReepers like me out there in flyover country, heed the call of the DC types. Visit them on a Friday night and add your voice to their message. You will certainly be glad you made the effort. Saturday on the Mall and the Smithsonian will be icing on the cake.
Thanks to Y'all for countering these lefty scumbags(with apologies to bags of scum everywhere)
RE: the last photo
stand up and be counted girl!!
If you get there some time this summer & have some lead time to let me know, perhaps I can be there also! What a great FReep to meet you face to face..
In winter at DC, I like to do the museums, old post office etc. In summer, there is so much to do in DC alone (lots of walking) and Mt. Vernon is just down the pike.
I remember well the pix from winter.. but they were still good!
