PS I wouldn't be too surprised to see Vice President George Allen tap Governor Ken Blackwell to be his running mate in 2012.

So who is going to be the one-term president in 2008?

What does him being black have to do with anything?

Most blacks think that conservatism is white-middle-class-guy thing. It would be good to have somebody from their rank to show that conservatism cut across race/ ethnicity. Yes, we have several black authors (e.g. Sowell), but not many elected public officials.

I know I left a response earlier...I made a mistake on the date of the election...Nov. 7th...it's a Tuesday!!!

Please just make sure Strickland is the one who goes home...not the governor...Governor Blackwell sounds more like it!!!!

I've heard Ken talk in person a number of times and I completely disagree with you.

He has a vision, for sure, but he also has specifics about how to go about getting things done.

He also is a leader, and has the power to persuade.

Petro's 'advantage' is that he was an insider, and that is his liability as well.

The insiders of the Ohio Republican Party have failed miserably. Our taxes are through the roof, people are leaving our state in droves and our schools are a mess because of broken promises of 'insiders.'

I for one have never been happier to see anyone lose than I was Petro. We need someone who will get THE RIGHT things done.

You have to sell your soul to be a state-wide or national Democrat.

You have to move from believing that life is sacred to believing that unborn babies should be slaughtered.

I'm quite sure his 'religious' background isn't going to convince anyone of his morality, any more than algor's seminary training (which he failed out of, btw), convinced anyone of HIS morality.

Interesting analysis, most of which I agree with.

Just curious as to why you think agreement to debates would mean trouble for Blackwell.

Exactly. An opportunist is someone who has a position, like being pro-abortion, then switches to pro-life when they run for office.

Know anyone like that?

Just curious as to why you think agreement to debates would mean trouble for Blackwell.

Blackwell avoided any Petro debate except one......one put on by the Christian Coalition of Ohio.........one that was small and little known.........one that would have been freindly to him instead of neutral and let all the candidates stake their positions to the genral public side by side.........one that wouldn't be televised and only broadcast on three little known radio stations, one a low watt station in Cleveland, one a daytime only station in Columubus that left the air before the debate was over and one in Lancaster that has about a 20 mile radius. Blackwell was the only major candidate in attendance. The rest were the second tier candidates. Petro had a conflict and so did Blackwell until he was sure Petro wasn't going to be there.

A major part of Blackwell's strategy was to stay out of the debate spotlight in generally neutral forums because it could only hurt him instead of helped him. And he had a comfortable lead in the polls both internal and external. He wasn't going to risk that. Blackwell's a cagey man.

If he gets behind Strickland, look for him to be much more amenable to debating in secular/neutral debates that will be televised.

RE Vice President Allen naming Governor Blackwell as his running mate in 2012.

Who do I think will be a one-term president?

I think things will get very interesting after the November elections, when the Republicans retain control of both houses of Congress, and do o.k. in the Governor and state legislature elections.

Senator McCain and former Mayor Rudy Guiliani will each try very hard to win the nomination, and conservatives will probably rally around Senator Allen.

Therefore, if either McCain or Guiliani wins the nomination, he would be well advised to tap Allen for Vice President.

As for being a 1-term president, that's kind of a throwaway line, but ... who knows ... McCain is kind of long in the tooth.

(If Allen were to win the nomination in 2008, I think he turns to Minnesota Governor Pawlenty.)

The Republican insiders I know are all deeply disappointed that Petro has lost to Ken Blackwell in the primary.

The "Republican insiders" are the people who gave us "Governor" Robert Shaft and company. Bob Bennett the jerked over 'rat who sold out for money, is the party boss but he means nothing to the grass roots. Buckeyes haven't elected a good conservative because the scum who make up the "republican insiders" haven't allowed them the option--until now.

Ken Blackwell is conservative to the core. The REAL deal. Any conservative who is 'disappointed' is NOT one.......or very ill-informed.

Just so. Blackwell's credentials are authentic, unlike the poser Petro who ran as a "Christian" in a desperation ad last week.

If Blackwell can unmask Strickland as an undercover shrink posing as a preacher, it may pay big dividends down state where the country folks got no use for head-shrinkers.

If you really have to ask that question, then you're just not ready for prime time, player. This is politics, get it?

And the only way Blackwell will win in November is if the people who supported Petro vote for him rather than staying home or voting for Strickland.

You seem eager to ignore that Blackwell stands to capture a substantial proportion of Ohio's Black vote, making up for any dipsh*t Petro voters who still have their nose out of joint. Some RINO's can and will stay home, being irresponsible by definition, but the Black votes will come at Strickland's expense, and so far he hasn't made many friends in the Black community. I think they can smell the snake oil.

I saw Blackwell in person at a campaign whistle stop right after those hideous, "I'm the REAL Christian" ads by Petro came out, and he said, "I'm a boxer. I know how to counter punch." And he did.

I have the feeling that he'll come out with whatever is necessary to expose Mr Snake Oil to the Ohio public.

Like he said last night, "Brother Strickland...........you can RUN, but you can't HIDE."

I have the feeling that this is going to be a 'spirited' campaign, and I can't wait!

I hear Blackwell talk much more about social issues -- over which the governor has very little control -- than nuts and bolts governance issues.

Nobody gets elected on "nuts and bolts." If they did we'd have had two terms of President Dukakis.

It would really help the party a lot to have another black Governor.

When was the last one?

I can sleep easy knowing (without a doubt) that Blackwell won't take the same attitude with Petro supporters as you.

Because if he did, he wouldn't be the man you say he is.
