Houston firefighters are standing by for the emergency landing of a of a 50-passenger jet at Bush Intercontinental Airport, an airport spokesman said today.

The Continental Express Embraer 145 took off between 4 and 4:20 p.m., said Rich Fernandez, a spokesman for the Houston Airport System.

``It blew a tire on takeoff and is circling the airport now,'' Fernandez said. ``I do not know what airline this is.''

The Embraer 145 is known as a ``regional jet,'' Fernandez said.

No tire = no brakes, no?

Any braking would be uneven...

Hope everything works out alright. Prayers.

May be circling another 30 minutes to burn off fuel, per KHOU.

That looks about right. I've flown them around the mid-west a few times, and I really like them. All leather seats, nicely appointed, a bit loud, but not like the old 50-seaters I used to fly around New England 30 years ago!

It's probably CO 3161, which was scheduled to leave Houston at 3:55PM. It left Gate B63A 3 minutes early at 3:52PM. It is estimated to arrive in Minneapolis at 6:33PM, but is shown on Continental's website as in flight near Houston.

Forgot to mention that the planes are made in Brazil, according to what I read a few years ago. Still, plush and roomy.

They will have to dump fuel and go in wheels up.

From one video feed it looked like the flaps on the left side were damaged.

Is wheels up the proper procedure?
