Ray Robison, who has major work on the Harmony Database translation project is going to be posting less on his eponymous website Ray Robison. The reason is one to celebrate rather than mourn: he is writing a book on the translations. Follow the link above and leave a comment in the comments section, to show your support for seeing the book reach print. http://rayrobison.typepad.com/ray_robison/2006/05/announcement.html

Not yet :)
I need to get some new ones but I've been busy with this being the last week of school.
Such a project needs to 'compare and contrast' the lies and slanderous treachery of the democrat party leadership and the truth jveritas is uncovering. To merely publish the documents -if your intent is to get the truth to the American people- doesn't require a book. If you compare and contrast, put me down for a copy and any assistance in writing/editing I might be able to render.
Possibly the biggest mistake that could be made. This stuff must be made in documentary form that cannot be refuted by the MSM....it must set them back on their heals.
FOX's endorsement would only lend to ridicule and derision by all of the rest of the MSM....which, like it or not, is formidable!!
Any publication of a compilation of the Iraq Documents must be done with a "documentary tone" that virtually blows away the chattering classes ability to discredit it.
I envision a simultaneous release of a book and a DVD with supporting commentary from disinterested translators and from Iraqi witnesses willing to testify to the truth behind the document translations.
Ditto.
Yes, notify me when you need an official letter.

Lots of great suggestions on the thread, I also support contrasting the lies of the left in the project.
Bump!
Why?
Why drag down this very important and historic work to the level of a Michael Moore slime fest? The documents speak for themselves.
If it's a tit-for-tat "you lied" type of book then even I am not interested in it.
Post when the book is available and I will buy one.
Just to clarify, noteable quotes of the media and leading politicians will be used, but not in a michael moore (ick) kind of fashion. Thier own words can be contrasted against the documents to show their failures, without using name calling.
Where did I advocate that? I believe the facts out of the pre-war docs can be illustrated in juxtaposition to the lies and statements of the left in a manner that isn't Moore-esque. And to do so is reasonable and just, IMO.
Okay...as long as that is not the core of the book. I also think the INTRO should briefly cover the 12 years of 17 breached UNSCRs for disarmament obligations and the subsequent UNSCR 1441 which Saddam failed to comply with. See:
http://www.un.org/apps/news/infocusnewsiraq.asp?NewsID=354&sID=6
THE SECURITY COUNCIL, 27 JANUARY 2003:
AN UPDATE ON INSPECTION
Executive Chairman of UNMOVIC, Dr. Hans Blix
Saddam failed UNSCR 1441 on "Cooperation of Substance" and "Cooperation of Process" according to Dr. Hans Blix.
The "left" needs to be reminded that the Iraq War is about the noncompliance of the disarmament UNSCRs and his failure to comply.
I would also probably note that regime change and democracy for Iraq supported via a proxy war has been U.S. law since 1998 in the "Iraq Liberation Act of 1998" (HR 4655).
Don't get caught up in the "left's" argument for a smoking gun. It was never about a smoking gun. It was about the threat of 12 years of noncompliance by a brutal regime with a PROVEN history of using WMD against innocent civilians. I ask please to not chase the left's tail. It will get you nowhere.
Best of luck to you guys. I have spoken with Jveritas in private and I have all the confidence in the world that your efforts will be a success!
Where did I advocate that?
You didn't advocate that. I said it to make sure that this is not where the book goes. It would be tragic if that is all that the book amounted to -- ala Michael Moore style.
I want more than anyone to smack those nitwitted liberals all over the place but this book is not the place to do it.
The documents are not about liberals or Republicans, they are about Saddam and his regime.
What a great idea. I want a signed, by you and jveritas, copy of the book when it comes out. Thank you both for keeping us in the loop. You're great!
How can this Nation ever repay you Joe?
Thank you thank you thank you!
Heck, I'll buy 10 and give em out to friends! When I run out of those, I'll buy 10 more and keep going.
Will agree with the latter but not the former point, at least to a degree. The left has done nothing but deny the ties between Saddam and AQ, Saddam and his WMD, Saddam and his evil deeds. All for no other reason than because they don't happen to be in power (thank God) at the time the crisis came to a head.
They embolden the jihadi's with their shenanigans to the point of giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
I don't want to take anything away from the translations, nor make this a primarily politically focused us/them endeavor. But to omit the very pertinent context of the facts, vs. the intentional political subterfuge of the Democrats and media leaves a gaping hole in the "story" and doesn't give the reader a complete picture, IMO.
Regardless, I support the project and the authors and will respect their good judgements and decisions on the matter. Bump!
Thank you for being true to Free Republic.
Best wishes on the book interprise.
