SHE must have known she would be the focus of attention when she attended the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night.

Ms Plame was the US Central Intelligence Agency officer, who was identified as a CIA operative in a newspaper column in 2003.

The ensuing political controversy, commonly referred to as the Plame affair, led to a Justice Department investigation and one of US president George Bush's closest assistants on national security being indicted.

But all that was behind her as she stepped out in style at the Washington Hilton, with husband Joseph Wilson, reported the Editor & Publisher.

They were guests at the ABC News party. Ms Plame was all smiles as she stepped out into the public glare for the first time.

Then came the question. Why was she attending the party?

Her reply: 'I'm sorry. I'm wearing Armani.' That was a reference to her sleek ivory gown.

US President George Bush was also out and about at the festivities. So what would Ms Plame do if she met the president?

Her reply: 'I'm wearing Armani.'

Time to move away from the gown and the controversy.

Moving onto other subjects, Ms Plame was a bit more forthcoming.

She told reporters that since she left the CIA in January, she had been taking care of her children.

She said: 'It's more fun and more difficult than working at the agency.'

And now back to the parties and why she was there.

She said: 'We thought it would be fun. We look forward to a delightful evening.'

Husband Wilson spoke up: 'We have no reason to hide.'

About 2,700 people were expected at the dinner which kicked of with a round of cocktail parties scattered over two floors at the hotel.

Inside, all was glamour and glitter.

Outside, about 15 protesters from the conservative Web site Free Republic handed out baby pacifiers with 'CNN' written on them.

Husband Wilson spoke up: 'We have no reason to hide.'

And here I was scared to death for Plame's safety after the 'leak'...

Excellent point. She had no reason to hide before or after the "leak."

"Her reply: 'I'm sorry. I'm wearing Armani.'"

How embarrassing. How jejune.

And this is a power player?

Was she wearing shoes or going barefoot and pregnant? Did she have her teeth in for the evening?

Dear Miss Manners,

I was shocked to hear Valerie Plame's comments at the recent White House Correspondents Dinner. What did you think?

Dear Gentle Reader,

Ms. Plame must consider herself a star - a vapid, devoid of original thought, script reader. When such types walk the red carpet in their borrowed gowns and jewels, they are obligated to reciprocate the designer's generosity. Yet, when one who understands the subtle nuances of simple etiquette purchases similar items, they never, ever reveal proclaim the brand. It is simply not done.

I agree completely! IMO, they showed they have no class, and ABC proved once again what idiots they are. It was an "in your face" act by both ABC and the Wilson's. I'm sick of the media going out of their way to embarrass the President and Mrs. Bush. If they want to disagree with the President, do it in a commentary, but they need to stop the attempt to make news by being insulting.

"I'm wearing Armani."

How Hillaryesque. Not surprising though. Birds of a feather and all that.

Apparently, the WH press corps was upset that on AF One the TV's were set only to Fox News. One day they ganged up on Scott McClellan and demanded access to CNN and he caved.
