Ahh, a big, upside-down flag right in the middle of the pic. That'll show us how peaceful and tolerant these folks are.

The irony is the blacks were the ones considered the problem.

Do we have to ask where all the jobs have gone?

Get these illegals out of here please? K... thx...

Where are the natives? Shouldn't they be upset that they are not involved in the rebuilding? Or do they not expect to be?

We had an 18 yo idiot storm out of work at 7 AM today after a 65 yo female employee commented that in her opinion all illegals should be deported.

"I'm hispanic and I don't get no ***in respect around here," was his parting comment.

The problem with this picture? He's Puerto Rican; and the last time I looked, PRs are citizens of the U.S. with full rights. To add insult to injury, he was the beneficiary of a 10% raise in pay just last week.

My problem? I need to decide his punishment: immediate dismissal? reduction in pay? warning and note to his personnel file? A lot will depend on what he does tomorrow. Certainly an apology from him is in order.

BTW, his mom was on the phone by noon today trying to make amends for him -- but not a word from him.

I just know that I'm not going to take this. He can be replaced.

The natives are either not in New Orleans, or are doing stuff other than construction. My brother is working construction right now, and he's doing fine.

The Mexican laborers here aren't really taking jobs away from anyone. There was a sudden surge of demand for construction work after Katrina. Believe me, we have enough jobs to go around. The limiting factor is housing. It's not that the immigrants here are doing the jobs Americans won't do; they'e living in housing that Americans won't live in.

Thanks. Occasionally I'll see a news report out of NOLA that hints that the nativer blacks are being shut out of the rebuilding process, was just wondering how true that is.

Make sense since those providing jobs to rebuild the city fired the local, citizen workers and replaced them with "immigrant" workers because they were cheaper.

Yup. Should be a lot of "immigrant" workers in New Orleans right now.

I remember what jerks these guys were when I was doing a Katrina relief mission - tetanus shots were in short supply and we had a group of Mexicans who had obviously been coached on what to say come to the makeshift clinic; claiming non-visible "I stepped on a nail" injuries, demanding tetanus AND hepatitis vaccines in what I regarded as very threatening body language and attitude. Nice.

It isn't. Everyone is hiring right now. The entire city is short-handed. No one is getting shut out of anything. Some contractors may be angry that they aren't getting as much money as they would like, but that's hardly being "shut out."

Replace him. And, the sooner the better. Not a one of us would be able to talk like that in an employment situation ... and get away with it. Why should he?
