I don't disagree that Saddam was always trying to build up his weaponry and capabilities. Would you concede that he might also be looking at how he would respond if Iram used nerve gas and how he might protect his forces in such a scenario?

Very Interesting!!!
So Why have nerve gas detectors?
Well almost immediately The best reason I can think of is to be able to check for leaks in your nerve gas supplies, you really don't want to go around checking for nerve gas leaks in ammo using the sniff test and ye olde Mark 1 nose.
Especially if these were purchased in volume.

Saddam would never put himself in a situation of defense only with Iran, no way. If he thinks the Iranians were working on Chemical Weapons then he is going to have his as well.

I have no doubts that Saddam had chemical, biological weapons and was sporadically (even with the IAEA inspections which he was continually deceiving) pursuing nuclear weapons. What I am cautioning is a jump to a sole conclusion with the document.
BTW, please keep up the tremendous work, jveritas. America truly needs what you are doing.

Suggestion: Why not copy documents to place that you can do keyword searches on?

--- Saddam would never put himself in a situation of defense only with Iran, no way. If he thinks the Iranians were working on Chemical Weapons then he is going to have his as well. --- Didn't you translate a document about hiding chemical weapons and it turned out to be about the Iranians hiding chemical weapons? What was the date of that document?

I agree the document by itself is not a direct indication of a mass production of Chemical weapons, but at least it shows that this man had never complied with U.N resolutions since production of these Nerve Agents detectors was prohibited and there was a reason the U.N prohibited them from importing it, using it, or manufacturing it.

--- I am not aware of this document, I will search my files though.--- Jveritas, If I remember correctly it was about hiding CWs in a grove of trees and then someone pointed out that the name of the location was actually in Iran and the document was about Iran.
Maybe I saw it a Ray Robison's website but I thought it was here in one of your translations and discussions. I'll look for it too. The date of said document would be interesting.
