Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
You get the strong stomach award tonight. I had to turn it off.
I don't know if you saw this part...but Chrissy was giving the "run down" of all of the corrupt Republicans supposedly tied to Bush...
And asked Jim Gilmore if there ever comes a time that a party is pulled so far down, by the leaders, that it would be better to do away with the whole party and start over...
(Does that sound familiar?...kinda like we see here on FR a lot lately)...
Anyway Gilmore didn't even argue....just said something like, well yes, there sure needs to be some changes in the Republican party if they expect to do well in November..
Then Chrissy states that "no one like George Bush anymore, even in his own party"...and goes on to ask how the Congresscritters expect their campaigns to go...since this is a FACT, and what can they run on, since the war in Iraq is bad, gas is high, there is corruption going all the way to the top...
Gilmore said "by distancing as far as they can from the Administration"...
Don't know if you are paying attention...but, Landrieu is up begging for money....
And she is sounding very threatening...and mad...because she hasn't gotten the money they need...blah, blah.
I bet she is really PO'd that her brother lost...LOL
It's a good thing I didn't watch. I'm out of duct tape and can't wrap my head as tightly as necessary.
Has Mo1 been on any of the threads today??
If not she must really be feeling bad.
Mo1...praying that you are going to get well soon my friend.
Sen. CAAB..UP NOW!
OMG! I just walked in the door saw your post and actually knew to whom you were referring. I need help seriously, I had FNC on. LOL
You are officially a member of the "club"...when you recognize the new acronyms that fast!!! LOL
You aren't watching American Idol??
LOL, flipping back and forth. LOL, I went to watch Chris play baseball and I left FNC on for the Viking Kitties.
That was nice of them....to take a nap so you could!
We Moms just don't get to lay in bed and "be sick", do we??
Hope to see you HERE on the Senate thread tomorrow.
They are supposed to have the cloture vote in the morning on the Immigration Bill...and we need it to not be invoked..but it would take a miracle...because I only know of about maybe 10 Senators that I KNOW are totally against it.
I saw Frist on with Chrissy Matthews tonight..and he guaranteed cloture tomorrow and PASSING the bill on Thursday afternoon....he looked pleased as punch saying it also..
They just don't get it, do they?
Senate votes to double fines for illegal hires
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1637274/posts
My guess is they think the House will hold up the bill in conference and they think it won't be their fault/problem
Oh .. and I should be around tomorrow
Frist better PRAY that the House won't touch that Senate Bill...like Sessions says, there is no way that bill should ever become "law".
IMO .. it's a gamble not with taking .. that senate bill stinks
McCain is one of the most hated persons in the repuplican party
Graham is what my mom would have called too big for his britches. The good people of South Carolina are entitiled to much better than this.
Looks like they're getting an early start today...
